Ratch
History: One of the most significant aircraft in the history of British aviation, the Hawker Siddeley P.1127 was the development forerunner of the famous Harrier and the aircraft which introduced the incredible Bristol Pegasus-vectored thrust jet engine to the world of aviation. Six aircraft were produced, however three were lost to accidents, highlighting the ground-breaking nature of this test programme. In-box Review: This kit was tooled in 1963 and was last in the 2003 range. It is a 1/72 scale kit. Dimensions are 205 x 101mm. Parts count is 37 pieces. Skill Level is 1 and 1 Flying Hour is on the box. Moulded in a darker grey styrene than usual, the parts are crip and flash-free. Detail quality is basic – remember the age of the design and tooling. The country of manufacture is India. Instructions are illustrated over five assembly steps. Images for painting and decal placements are printed on the reverse of the end-opening box. Decals are by Cartograf, ensuring perfect registration, sharpness, density of colour, and unobtrusive carrier film. The marking provided are for two prototype airframes, XP831 and XP836, Dunsfold Aerodrome, Surrey, 1961. Paints advised: 11 Metallic Silver 24 Matt Trainer Yellow 33 Matt Black 53 Metallic Gunmetal 61 Matt Flesh 127 Satin US Ghost Grey 130 Satin White These are not included in the kit. jopres57
Anyone interested in the P1127 may want to watch the 'Look at Life' short film 'Jumping Jets'. This is available sometimes on cable telly but can also be found on YouTube. Its clear from the images that there was a lot of tonal differences in the silver finish of the aircraft, especially on the top of the wings. For anyone building the Bloodhound kit there's also some good close ups of a series 1 RAF land rover.

A J Rimmer
Interesting looking kit and aircraft. I've never had any luck building any of the Harriers - there's always something that seems to go haywire.
