There is a really interesting 6 part series on C4 titled "Abandoned lines from above". The 1st episode deals with S & D Joint Railway from Bath to Bournemouth, the 2nd the Oxford to Cambridge line. It gives an insight into the industries supported by these lines, well worth watching.
