Fishmanoz
Yes, you need to write 8 to CV 8. Follow the instructions in your controller on how to write CVs except, if it is a Select, it can't write CVs.

Thanks and Regards The advice about writing 8 to CV8 is all you can do for now. The decoder should NOT reset to defaults (eg address 3) unless there is some pretty catastrophic electrical event. a momentary short circuit should not do it; high electrostatic discharge might.... Keep an eye on the decoder and if the problem recurs then it might be worth contacting hornby.
Flashbang
Hi Gregd99 I don't think the OPs decoder has self reset? The OP was to be asking how do you reset it. Short circuits can occasionally reset decoders, as too can a poor DCC output data flow, especially at switch on and to a lesser extent at powering off. Much of this can be prevented by taking some external measures. If the OP has a Select and as previously stated, this cannot be used to reset a decoder, as it cannot write CVs other than the few its pre programmed to do.
