DMU mad
Hello all! I currently run a DCC layout using the Hornby Select, and I am looking into DCC sound. I read that the Select isn't capable of using the sound decoders to its full extent because it won't do "double functions", like F12 etc. Is this true? Will I be able to do functions between F1 and F16? Thanks
rugbyboys
The Select will carry out functions up to F9 but saying that I used my select for a couple of years running DCC sound and it worked fine not that many functions above that number but dont let this put you off getting a DCC sound Loco because it really is a different level, hope that this helps. DMU mad
So just to confirm, you can go up to F9, but not F10, 11, 12, etc..... However, the sounds after that aren't really important. Is that what you're saying? I'm a little confused.
Gregd99
I think that he is saying not that many functions above F9 are used to generate sounds. I don;t know if this is correct or not but if I payed a lot of money for a sound loco then i would want to be able to control every sound!! The select also has very limited CV programming capability. this means that you will not be ale to tune sound volumes or.... in my opinion the sound locos are rolls royce locos. the select is a mini minor controller. It is fin if you only want a min but with the rolls you need an elite.
The son of Triangman
The Select is limiting in what it can do, it's an introduction to DCC controller really, ideal for those starting out. Upgrade to an Elite or similar as soon as you can if you want more from DCC.
rugbyboys
Hi thats exactly what I am saying the Select will carry out functions up to F9 but that covers most of the basic important sounds after that it is things like guards whistle or rail clatter or even seagull sounds, It covers the main basic sounds what you would need.
