dale_andrew
Ive tried resetting it on the controller but it keeps my point decoder settings. I want reinstall the hornby points decoder so they come to default 60, 61, 62, 63, 64.?
Fishmanoz
Resetting your Elite will never have any affect on any decoder address as those addresses are held in the decoder, not the controller. Now just looking at the addresses you have specified, you can't have 60-64 as that is 5 addresses and there will only be 4 ports on your decoder. You can only have either 60-63, or 61-64. Then you can only have 60-63 if you have been programming with Select where 60 is the first address it uses for accessory decoders. With Elite, it uses "group addresses". You enter a group address of n and your ports are programmed to actual addresses of 4n + 1 and the 3 numbers following. So enter a group address of 15 and you get 61-64. But if you have already programmed 60-63 with Select, these addresses are retained in the decoder so you ports remain on those addresses. Then if you program your next decoder with Elite, 64 can't be used and your next available addresses are 65-68 (group address of 16). Does that make any sense? Augustus Caesar
I got it Fishy but loved the use of the variables... :-) I'm gonna put the n in my Elite one day and watch it cry!!
dale_andrew
That is brilliant thank you. The decoder was programmed 61-63 with no 64. I have now added a 4th point motor but it wont work now? How do i add no 64 please?
Fishmanoz
Can only assume you have a faulty decoder with one port out of commission because all 4 ports are supposed to be programmed at the same time. You could try resetting, which should put their addresses to 1-4 then reprogramming.
Fishmanoz
I mean resetting the decoder, not the Elite.
dale_andrew
How do i reset the decoder?
RDS
The support section of the Hornby website (this one) states:To reset the chip to its original "factory" settings, the value "8" needs to be written to CV 8. An Elite controller is required to perform this action. Instructions on how to do this are on page 35 of the Elite instruction manual.
dale_andrew
Thank you you 2. I'll give it a go in the morning
Fishmanoz
And that is likely page 35 of the latest manual which came as a soft copy with the v1.41 firmware update files, which hopefully is the one now on this site. it will not be the one that came in hard copy with the Elite unless that is a very recent purchase. dale_andrew
I tried to read it in Elite and it came back with xxx. I can write to the decoder in Railmaster but i can't read it. I could read it when i first got the decoder. I'm at the point now of getting something different, What do you reckon?
Fishmanoz
That is just saying it can't be read. Just what decoder is it - an 8247 bought some time ago as they aren't available now? If so, faulty port is more than likely as they have proven quite unreliable and have now been unavailable for a year or more. No problem with continuing to use 3 ports. If you want more you have to do something different. There is info in here on many more types. I would suggest something like the ADS8 and definitely stay away from Switchpilot as TWD has found recently. Ask again for more brand options or try a forum seach on accessory decoder. dale_andrew
Thank you. I've just ordered a ADS8. BTW, i bought the 8247 off Amazon a few weeks ago . . . nobody else had them in stock.
Fishmanoz
Not even DCC Concepts themselves?Just for others, 2 other brands found to be easy to use recently are TT300 from Traintronics and Tawcraft, who I seem to remember are the ones who only sell from eBay.
