PJ_model_trains
Hi I have just purchased a Hornby R8249 decoder (new) I am about to install it in my Dapol track cleaning wagon A purple wire appears loose, it is connected to the chip but not to the 8 pin that goes in the socket. Is this correct or is the decoder faulty? This is the first time I have attemped installing a decoder. PJ
Zues
That is correct, purple is meant to be like that :)
poliss
The 9th purple wire isn't meant to be connected to the plug. It's used for locomotives that have lots of DCC functions, such as extra lights that you might find on American outline locomotives. You could put a piece of tape on the end to guard against it touching anything. It could be cut off, but that might void the warranty with Hornby decoders. On certain other makes they have a goof proof warranty that covers you even if breaking it is your fault.
