  1. Hi All Does anyone have dcc concepts ss above boardpoints and decoders as im considering them with my new layout. Unfortunately finding out that hornby point motors and decoders are not very reliable. Or are there other point dcc systems that are better to consider i.e. cost, reliability. I also understand that you need to modify hornby and peco points to use dcc concepts, is that correct? If so is it easy to do as my points are already laid and can only do above board motors. Many thanks in anticipation for any help with this Hornby Elite and Select, Railmaster, Laptop being used going forward
  2. Top man Chris, thought it seemed a bit daft having to connect and disconnect all the time!! Another problem solved!
  3. Hi, can you have power to layout bus and power to signalling track connected at the same time?. It seems a bit awkward to have to disconnect power from bus just to program a loco?

    CDU

I am currently building a new railway and currently on with the off scene storage yards where I am utilising Hornby point motors and the R8216 Accesory units from a previous layout to reduce cost. Will the power from my Elite controller be sufficient for throwing the points consistently or should I add a CDU which I have seen mentioned in various places. If so what type, where would i get it from and where would this need wiring in? Sorry but not up on electrics. Secon point is I find the wire from the point motors is very fine, is this ok in the scheme of things or is there any way to alter this. Will be using Elite controller with Railmaster on a laptop
  5. Just tried using Anyrail trial and came up with a great setrack solution which will give me 10 through roads on a 2ft board with 1ft board attached at bottom left. Then just reciprocate at other end.!!/media/tinymce_upload/69a35513911afa774b731d081bed3af7.jpg
  6. Thanks Chris Bizzarly I managed to program a decoder using the Select controller and it threw the point which is a Peco curved point. I made the hole bigger on the point arm and it works fine. I now need to see if elite will change the points. Then check using Railmaster.
  7. Hi All I am currently rebuilding a new layout and, from a cost basis, wish to re-use and re-program my 5 x R8216. So far no luck using Elite, R 8216 and R8014 motors. I have tried different combinations in case there is a fault on accessory decoders and point motors but motor the will not trip using address 61. When programming as per Elite book there is a click from the decoder light flashes 6 times and clicks again. I am connecting Elite to the point decoder and then attaching wires from the motor to the point decoder and then trying to program. Secondly I have Railmaster. Should I try to program decoders using this?? Can anyone help please as its doing my tree in!!
  8. Thanks for your reply Buz and look forward to your diagram.Any help and ideas are greatly appreciated

  10. Hi I wonder if any of you have any better ideas than my attached effort for storage. Although I end up with 2 through lines and 8 storage lines the lengths are not verry long. i have a width of 10 feet and 2ft in depth. There will be 1ft feeding into it at either end. Imm using Hornby Setrack and will be DCC and will be using Railmaster. Hope someone can help Regards John
  11. Many thanks Chris, most helpful Regards Jacko
  12. so if just using hornby points should i be running a bus wire and use droppers for power?
  13. Hi, i have a number of pieces of peco settrack points which i would like to be able to use with my dcc controlled hornby layout. Can I use the hornby point clips on the peco points to make them live. Many thanks Jacko
