  1. Yesterday I tried the screwdriver technique without luck and was near to giving up as I was starting to bend bits of the tender. However, I tried a stanley knife at the front left side of the tender rather than at the front end and the shell suddenly 'pinged off'. Now awaiting an 8pin DCC chip. Thanks for your suggestions ... Julian
  2. Sadly, No; it's not! I saw that article; the Schools in it has two screws to release the tender body. The latest model [from the 2013 catalogue] has clips that hold the body on ... Thanks anyway ...
  3. I've just purchased one of the Hornby R3172 'Schools Class' models; it's 'DCC Ready' so I thought it would be easy to put a decoder in. However, despite reading the instructions, I can't get the tender body off so as to get to the DCC socket. The instructions say "To remove pull upwards to disengage from the chassis" but that doesn't work! I can't work out how to disengage the four clips so as to do that. All help gratefully received ... Thanks - Julian
