  1. YES YES... Twerp that I am. I forgot to oil the 'other side' to the brass cog. Problem solved. Thank you Tony57. Thank you also Roj (RJ).
  2. Just bought an aged HST 125 with the usual Ringfield motor. Wasn't running at all, it is now after I cleaned and lubricated. Runs with an annoying 'screeching' sound that also slows up the speed. Am a little puzzled. Has anyone else come across this? If so, how did you cure it please?
  3. Does anyone know any useful video/utube links demonstrating how to wire up a switch (R044) and motor (R8243) to track please. SDD
  4. Tony is correct. And, Chrissaf - thank you... :-)
  5. Hi all. I have just purchased the above (era 5) loco which I knew didn't run. I'm sure it's a power feed issue. It's an unusual motor and (just my luck), not one I'm really familiar with. Might anyone have any images of this as a serviceable motor? It would give me something to work to and help as a general guide. Thank you SDD
  6. Thank you all for your contributions. I've had an idea from reading your thoughts. For an insert, I used a (straightened out) wire coat hanger. It's perfect and also the right length once I straightened with pliers and cut away the 'twisty' bits. Am still looking for something to use as tubing but I do have one or two ideas. I guess the whole point of all this and indeed the best ideas are those where an everyday item can be adapted for use accordingly. It just needs a little imagination with a touch of perception. It seems that throwing money at it is in some ways - a failure. Anyway, thank you again all for your help. Regards, SDD
  7. Hi there railway fans. I need to motorise just one single R8073 type point while adding/extending my layout. It will be out of reach otherwise and wont be able to switch it manually. Would be grateful for any links offered, that will take me to an ideal solution please. SDD
  8. Wow... Thank you both. Thank you indeed Sarah. That's a very full and complete response. Again, thank you for your time. I feel much more 'clued up' now as to what I need. In fact they're already on order. Thank you again. Rgds SDD
  9. I'm having a job trying to find Coupling Rod screws for my county class (R392) loco. The ones I need are the short (no shoulder) screws. Does anyone know if these screws for another loco will also fit? If not, does anyone know where I can get them. I've tried eBay but alas, they seem to sell only the large shoulder varierty which no good for what I need. I also need them to be in silver - not black. Thank you SDD
  10. Oh boy... Again, thank you RAF96 for your advices. Maybe the sooner lockdown ends and we can all go out and do other things - the better. It's easy to see all you guys are very proficient at this hobby. Some of us less so. So please be gentle haha. Rgds
  11. Thanks RAF96. At the moment, I'm just going to create an oval 'test-loop'. I will be mindful of expansion/contaction issues. I certainly wont be going anywhere near my main layout until this loop is first done and fully working, and I feel some confidance. But I hear what is said about nickel track being less easy to solder. So I will ensure my oval consists only of old steel tracks. Thanks again.
  12. Thanks Chris. I will take your advice and remove all fishplates before I begin on my test loop (oval). Thanks again.
