  1. Thanks Grumpy Perhaps my face doesnt fit. I'm thick skinned though. Probably due to the fact that, like most modellers, I have had my hobby ridiculed by family and workmates whos interests dont get past sport and cars Dave
  2. Hi, Fairly new to this game but I have just had an e-mail from the forum moderation saying that a post i created had contact which had been rejected by a moderator. My problem is that I have not been told why it was rejected, who rejected it or givn the chance to modify it and remove the offending content. Anybody else had this problem?
  3. This is my effort at the Airfix -Heller Wasa As I said in another post, the rigging jig instructions were a nightmare. must have made 3 or four sets before I got it right
  4. That is probably the answer then. I also have an 'Airfix' Golden Hind to build which is also moulded in heller tan with large sprues but does have the premoulded ratlines
  5. I may be wrong but in the kit I had the rigging jig was marked Gauche & Droits rather than Left and Right as in the Endevour kit. The instructions were in A3 format a-la-Heller, the part identification on some parts was almost illegible, the sprues were overlarge (by Airfix standard), and some parts of the kit especially around the stern gallery and the masthead trees were very ill fitting and needed rework or replacement. This ties in with previous assembly problems that I have had with Heller kits. Also the kit was moulded in a light tan colour peculiar to Heller. I have recently purchased the Heller Columbus set (Nina, Pinta & Santa Maria) and these are moulded in exactly the same tan colour and have the same overlarge sprues
  6. Hi Col Posted a reply to this under "endeavour bark" if you are still interested. Ratline jig does work but beware if you try modelling the Wasa kit. This may be in an Airfix box but it is a rissue of a Heller kit and the instructions leave a bit to be desired especially the ratline sizing. I had to measure the distance between individual deadeyes and length of the ratlines to recalculate the vertical shroud positions.
  7. I too am an old modeller and remember these model ships first time around with moulded ratlines. I took the plunge with Endeavour and used the ratline jig. I found that it is a great help if you add some masking tape to the top slots and also insert a piece of card between the ratlines before gluing. I also found it easier to remove one of the plastic bars (as shown in pic.) The thread supplied in the kit seemed to be waxed and glue would not take to it. I used ordinary thread of two different thicknesses (verticals being thicker than horizontals) and glued at each intersection with revell contacta as I found that liquid cement filled the gaps between the threads. it also needed two coats. I also painted the ratlines black. This worked well and I was also able to make the futtock shrouds using this method. (futtock shrouds run from the mast platform down to the main shrouds - you can see them on the photos). very fiddley work but worth it in the end.
  8. I'm talking about the large size 4-5 brushes to cover large areas For detail brushes I find that the 4 for £2 brushes from the Works are the best. Just resent paying out for so called quality brushes and have to spend time checking and double checking what I have painted for loose hairs, missing a couple, remiving them with a scalpel, rubbing down and repainting Before anybody asks, I do have an airbrush but find that by the time you mix the paint, mask everything up, spray the paint on, clean up the airbrush and de mask the model it is quicker to paint with a brush
  9. Is anybody else having problems with humbrol paint brushes? Brand new brushes, although pre cleaned, rinsed and shaken seem to shed hairs like there is no tomorrow. I end up with more things with hair on than there is in Chessington zoo
