  1. Hi im Ash from Wales. I'm disabled due to a road traffic accident when i was six years old. I enjoy model making but I need to be shown how to do certain techniques to make my builds look good. I use Tamiya cutters to get parts off the sprue, then i use an an emery board to file any left over sprue nubs. I don't use an airbrush as i only have use of my left hand so i use a paint brush. I use acrylic paint. All i want is a nice simple easy way of model making. I even want an easy way of brushing on primer and is there an easy way of weathering?
  2. Hi I'm Ashley I'm 45 years old from Wales. I am disabled and use a wheelchair. I enjoy modelling but I am not an experienced modeller and I need to learn techniques but I don't know how to learn and where from? My hands are stiff due to my disability and my right hand is basically a fist, I can use my left hand a little more than my right hand. I use clamps to hold parts together and I use files to smooth seem lines. I am not sure about various techniques such as dealing, weathering and such I just want to assemble a model easily with no fuss.
  3. I find if i paint onto the plastic without washing the sprues, the paint doesnt stick, theres surface tension but once i wash the plastic the acrylic paint sticks on no problem. I was thinking even though it's easier to wash a model one its built, how do i wash the interior parts that need painting first, do i wash all the parts while they're attached to the sprue by laying the sprues on a table, have a warm cup of soapy water and wash the sprues on the table? Or shall i build the cockpit say and then wash and paint or wash first then paint? im confused im not sure how to wash parts. I wish i didn't have to wash them. Ash
  4. Hi im Ash from north wales. I'm disabled and use a wheelchair. I like building models but i only have the use of my left hand. I was told that for washing parts its easier to wash after the model is built with warm soapy water and a brush, i had a go and it is easier to wash after its built as im cleaning the exterior. For aircraft for example do i wash the parts differently as the instructions tell me to construct the cockpit first. I'll need to paint the cockpit walls, how do i wash those, while they are attached to the sprue or how? Then when the aircraft is built i can wash the exterior with warm soapy water. It would be better if i wash the sprues in the sink but it's harder for me to do it that way. Also how do i wash the instument panels and seat and undercarriage gears, on the sprue??
  5. Hi i want to build a tank for a GB, but it has to have at least 2 figures. What airfix tank kits have figures please? I prefer 1 72 or 1 48 scale, i want to try 1 35 but photo etch worries me and ive never used photo etch. Ash
  6. Hi i want to convert humbrol acrylic to revell aqua for the airfix 1:76 ww1 mk 1 male tank, the humbrol numbers are, 113, 80,74 and 29. Can you help me please?
  7. Hi is there a build on here of the airfix WW1 1:76 mk 1 male tank please? I'm having the kit for christmas and i want to see how people have fitted parts, i have difficulty using my hands. Thanks Ash
  8. Hi it's Ash here, im a little worried about how to go about weathering my models using acrylic washes? I have watched these guys on youtube using dirt, rust grime washes and looks so easy but then they also chip their models which im not sure about, i either chip too much or too little. Should i use a reference image as a guide to weathering my models so then i can see where the vehicle or aircraft is chipped? With weathering washes, i use flory dark dirt but i also want to use other washes aswell. What other washes can i use asel as dark dirt? I want my model to look a little rusty aswell as the dark dirt.
  9. Hi my name is Ash, im 43 and from Wales. I'm disabled and use a wheelchair, i enjoy scale modelling and a mate of mine bought me the Airfix tiger1 early version operation citadel in 1 35 scales as i can handle bigger pieces. What is the build like please, does it go together easily, are there a lot of parts, that's what's putting me off the build the amount of parts. Thanks.
  10. Hi my name's Ash and im from Wales. I am disabled and use a wheelchair. I've been watching aircraft modeling videos on youtube and i enjoy watching some of them and i had a go at building a few 1 72 scale ww2 aircraft but becae my hands dont work that well so i tried a bigger scale, 1 48 ww2 aircraft and find that scale better. I'm currently building a 1 48 scale 109, i have nearly finished it, i need to gloss varnish it, add decals, matt varnish it then apply clay weathering wash. For weathering, do i just apply the dark dirt clay wash? The video builds i watch on youtube, this guy paints small parts on the sprue before he assembles them onto the fuselage, maybe doing it that way would be easier for me, then after he's assembld them onto the fuselage he touches them up with paint. i use paint brushes and revel acrylic paint.
  11. Hi i need help please with my model please, I am building an Airfix BP Defiant NF1 in 1:48 scale and im stuck on what to do next. I have added a pilot to the cockpit, put fuselage together and added wings, then i painted the top and wings black. Here is an image of it so far. I put the paint on thinnly but im not sure if some of the detail is covered up. Thanks. Ash /media/tinymce_upload/3a908d38025d82839072e44d4af9139f.jpg
