  1. Hi all

Calling Liberator experts,  what have I got to do to the new release to turnit into 'J' varient?

Just seen some nice decals  for a Suffolk UK based a/c in natural metal as opposed to the problematic and drab "olive drab" colour

    Thanks in anticipation.

P.S.  Very good article in AMW.

  2. What are the chances of Airfix releasing a 1/72 F1a Lightning? I don't mean a Classic rerelease of the ancient F1a, rather a new tool. I had a look at the current F2a it does not seem to lend itself to being reboxed as an F1a because wing shape, under belly fuel tank and vertical tail fin are all different.

  3. Yes, it would be great i Airfix produced a new tool GR1 with multiple weapons load and all the letters of the alphabet plus multiple squadron crests. This would give it some edge over the Japanese and German competition that are exceptionally good. The pointy-nose Airfix release of the '70s should be consigned to the metal recycling yard. Decal sheet I liked though.

  4. Well what an interesting thread this has turned out to be even though the theme was the restricted variant that could be made from the new mosquito. Thus for those who want a ‘normal’ mosquito we have to, unnecessarily, spend extra on after-market adaption kits.

I stress ‘unnecessarily because the list of earlier Airfix kits that catered for two or more variants is too long to list. Though the Airfix P-61 Black Widow does deserve a mention. The inclusion/omission of a gun Coppola determining the variant.

Leaving restricted choices to one side, I noticed that the Kent Battle of Britain Museum, Hawkinge had several of the new mosquito in stock in their gift shop.

  5. The fairings and doors are separate, so given the flat to bulged bay conversion, It should be possible to convert the other way (for a closed bomb bay) by omitting the fairings and slimming the doors (memory says 2mm but I don't have a kit yet).

Looking at loads of photos of bulged-bomb bay mosquitos, I don't think 2mm will work. I just have to resign myself to extra cost and invest in the Freightdog PR.XVI part. Though my 1970s decals should be restored with my charity shop UV light, should stop the project becoming unreasonably expensive.

  6. heart_eyesThanks peebeep, Thanks Ken

My FG.1 does not contain a 'frame' 'H'

I can understand the undercarriage I'm using stages 81b and 83b.

Not sure which parts you are referring to in "blanks for the catapult spool parts? Is this stage 43 and 44? I'm using C6 and C7?

  7. Do you want to enlighten us? For those of us who don't do Facebook!

I don't get any pleasure in this post . Airfix should have guessed this would happen.

With the imminent release of the new Airfix 1/72 DH Mosquito B.XVI kit, I am pleased to announce that Freightdog have six resin sets due for release very soon, with more to follow. Masters are finished, with thanks to Airfix for early access to test shots. Sets under preparation include conversions for the B.IX, PR.IX, PR.XVI, PR.32, PR.34 and B.35. Images of test castings to follow soon.

  8. No doubt someone like freightdog or quickboost or eduard will come up with parts to take what looks like it will be a truly incredible kit to the next level.

Yes, announcement on Facebook. unnecessary extra expense if you ask me.

  9. Conversion method: run sprue the length of bombay gluing to inner 'lip' then covering whole section in Perfect Putty, sculpting to conform to fuselage ?

Given in the past Airfix have offered different variants to a/c I must admit to feeling aggrieved in this instance.

  10. I’m very much looking forward to the new Mosquito. But what’s this? a ‘pot-bellied’ variant? Does it contain parts for a normal fuselage?

If not, might Airfix consider offering their own conversion part/s? Such as open/closed bombay doors.

  11. The Mossie mould will probably have advanced design features which is the modern Airfix way so that FB Mk.VI or NF Mk.II type variants can follow at a later day with just the odd sprue change, rather than a totally different tooling!

Is an additionl nose and cockpit window too much to ask for in the same Box?  The gun barrels and radar antena.  Not a big addition surely?

  12. well it's out there and as boring as previous years. there are one or two I will admit liking the look of but in all honesty. i will nto pre-order. I've done that for two years runnig and NEVER got the kits. If they are feeling clients aren't buying they can look to their own system for the failures to keep their own site runnnig properly.

Do support your nearest model shops id you can.  I have two both being a train ride away.  MZ closed annoyingly.  I don't know if in the future another company will fill the gap they have left behind in the retail market.

  13. Oh dear.  I played with those 1/32 figures in the '70s!

Mosquito bomber as opposed to fighter.  What happened to multiple  variants?

With the closure of Cambridge airport a 1/72 Chipmunk would have been nice.

Agree with comments about Merlin engined Hallybag.  Hope to see it in my lifetime.
