  1. I received my King Charles 66 today and being new to all this, I assumed it would work on DC. Not the case. I downloaded the HM app and fiddled about (not really knowing what I’m doing!) just to see if it would work and to my amazement I had power and sounds! All I have is the app and the basic gaugemaster controller, no fancy digital controllers or adapters. Should this actually work with my setup or will I cause damage to the loco?

    Thanks!

Mod note - title amended to describe your post

  2. Same. I wanted to stick with steam but I love this model and there is a small crossover with the steam era so it won’t look out of place. As it ran on the ECML and WCML that fits with my LMS/LNER theme. Plus with the 10% discount and hobby points it works out about £250.

Just to add, I didn’t have this on my watchlist, I just received the email and thought why not! I had Coronation on my list but the first I heard it was available again was on here.

  3. Just a heads up, the Dublo Deltic is back in stock for anyone who missed out last time! Bit of a wait but sure it’ll be worth it. Some kind chap was nice enough to notify us Coronation was back in stock last month, so thought this might be useful as it sold out quickly last time.

  4. Thanks for your help. Decided to strip and start again. Running as good as new so guess I missed something! Only issue is the screw for the conrod box (not sure of the real name!) will not hold it in place fully. Same screw as previous but the box is a bit wobbly. Any suggestions? forum_image_645f84a4c15a6.thumb.png.226e54af01240fdc9121de85ccd3ac4d.png

  5. Unfortunately I’ve had a few issues with City of Bristol. Took her apart for a service, put back together and its running terribly. Judders, won’t do one smooth lap of the layout, and the cylinder box just wobbles regardless of how tight I screw it back in. Also, the engine used to run on its own, now it won’t even power up without the tender connected up. I am a novice, but have taken things apart before, this has stumped me though. One of the wires from the engine has come adrift but it was working fine previously, even with it disconnected. I’m stumped, and annoyed with myself!

  6. Indeed! Keep telling myself that, but more new releases just keep popping up. I’ve no idea why I purchased the coronation 66, but I wanted a momento and I guess I fell for it! I’m mainly LMS but always fancied an A4. I could have both but I do have to watch the bank account occasionally! Reviews on the Dublo seem really good (plastic tender aside) but can I justify £100 more.

  7. Hi all,

I currently have the 85th Mallard on pre order to go with my A1/A2/A3. There’s not much detail on it but I imagine it’s not the railroad version. It’s the pre speed record version so doesn’t come with the commemorative side plate. However I’m keen on the Dublo A4 range and Gannet seems to be available for under £300 (plus it was the first A4 my father saw at Peterborough New England, albeit in BR guise). I know it’s personal choice but which would be the better option? I’m happy with most of my ‘standard’ Hornby locos but the die cast is appealing. The 85th is £175 after Hornby discount and Gannet would be about £290. Choices choices! My Tornado, Happy Knight and Scotsman are all in BR green livery but I feel I need a garter blue in the collection.

  8. Thanks all. Appreciate the detailed replies. Much more in the ‘loop’ now.

Les - I hadn’t noticed that, however she is quite noisy going forward but silent in reverse. Could that be the issue. Like a clunking/tapping sound?

  9. I know nothing about DCC (although I plan to upgrade in the future) and upon stripping my City of Bristol loco for servicing, I discovered this. No idea if it’s a sound chip or something else, but could someone identify it? Theres also 2 small wires under the pony truck, which attach to the tender connection. I broke one of these off but it doesn’t seem to affect the running. forum_image_6456cb4e7379c.thumb.png.3a8d32f7dbda34c0ff03a3f6785e6dcc.png

  10. I assume it comes with the chip but as I’m still running DC I’m not overly fussed.

Indeed you do get 10% discount. I only joined at the end of last year because it was worth doing for the discount on the Dublo Scotsman. In total, after the 10% discount and points from the Scotsman purchase, the Royal 66 has only cost me £70. Considering that’s the cost of a chip, it’s a good deal!

  11. Anyone else managed to pre order the latest collector club model? Took a few goes but my order went through in the end. Apparently theres only a handful left. I wasn’t sure at first but with the discount and Hornby points, it’s only about £70. I missed out on the Queen Elizabeth II purple model so I’ll settle for this instead. Still on the lookout for ‘70’ at a reasonable price!
