  1. Thanks all, it only did one lap so I’ll pack it away until I’m DCC ready! Hopefully it’s ok 🙏🏻 If I put a blanking plate in it, would that convert it to DC? Excuse my lack of knowledge on this.
  2. I received my King Charles 66 today and being new to all this, I assumed it would work on DC. Not the case. I downloaded the HM app and fiddled about (not really knowing what I’m doing!) just to see if it would work and to my amazement I had power and sounds! All I have is the app and the basic gaugemaster controller, no fancy digital controllers or adapters. Should this actually work with my setup or will I cause damage to the loco? Thanks! Mod note - title amended to describe your post
  3. Same. I wanted to stick with steam but I love this model and there is a small crossover with the steam era so it won’t look out of place. As it ran on the ECML and WCML that fits with my LMS/LNER theme. Plus with the 10% discount and hobby points it works out about £250. Just to add, I didn’t have this on my watchlist, I just received the email and thought why not! I had Coronation on my list but the first I heard it was available again was on here.
  4. Just a heads up, the Dublo Deltic is back in stock for anyone who missed out last time! Bit of a wait but sure it’ll be worth it. Some kind chap was nice enough to notify us Coronation was back in stock last month, so thought this might be useful as it sold out quickly last time.
  5. I haven’t heard back from Hornby yet either via the marketing email or a message on their Instagram page. Does anyone have a contact I can go to? Glad others have got their models, it’s a stunning piece of kit!
  6. There is just one bogey in the box. When I lifted the engine out, the bogey stayed in the box and I couldn’t see any screws loose in the packaging. These things happen, I’m sure Hornby will send me the parts I require. The part that connects the chassis to the bogey was also loose and rusted! Maybe this was a display model or a customer return?
  7. Oh, I’m not fussed by the number, just think it’s pretty cool I got a single digit one! Agreed though, worth at least a tenner on top 😉 Anyway, not all good news, seems someone forgot to attach the bogey so I’m not able to run her in! I can’t understand how it was placed in the box without it being attached. Hopefully Hornby pick up my email in the morning.
  8. She’s arrived! Number #8 aswell. Wonder if got one of the first pre order cancellations? She’s an absolute beaut.
  9. Are those 2 prices for Coronation or Queen Elizabeth? Another Coronation has just gone on eBay for £320, madness.
  10. If there’s one for sale on eBay, have they been released already? Or is this someone who will dispatch when they get it? Photos look like the standard Hornby ones.
  11. Despite me saying after getting my BR Scotsman that would be my last purchase this year I’ve just ordered the Coronation Duchess! Couldn’t resist after being unavailable for so long. still have the 85th Mallard and Dublo Mallard on pre order plus the Coronation 66. This is getting expensive!
  12. Excellent thanks, I’ll give that a try. I just find it strange that it fitted lovely before but now it’s loose!
  13. Got the email at 5am, spent hours on the website but there was no order button! Guess a few people had it in the basket but didn’t pay. Kept trying and managed to get one at 9! Happy days! Been after this for ages 😊
  14. Thanks for your help. Decided to strip and start again. Running as good as new so guess I missed something! Only issue is the screw for the conrod box (not sure of the real name!) will not hold it in place fully. Same screw as previous but the box is a bit wobbly. Any suggestions?
  15. I’ve just managed to pre order a Dublo Mallard even though it says out of stock on the website. Anyway, quick question. Are all the A4 Dublos ‘Great Gathering’ editions of have they released standard Dublo A4’s and ‘Great Gathering’ ones?
  16. Unfortunately I’ve had a few issues with City of Bristol. Took her apart for a service, put back together and its running terribly. Judders, won’t do one smooth lap of the layout, and the cylinder box just wobbles regardless of how tight I screw it back in. Also, the engine used to run on its own, now it won’t even power up without the tender connected up. I am a novice, but have taken things apart before, this has stumped me though. One of the wires from the engine has come adrift but it was working fine previously, even with it disconnected. I’m stumped, and annoyed with myself!
  17. Indeed! Keep telling myself that, but more new releases just keep popping up. I’ve no idea why I purchased the coronation 66, but I wanted a momento and I guess I fell for it! I’m mainly LMS but always fancied an A4. I could have both but I do have to watch the bank account occasionally! Reviews on the Dublo seem really good (plastic tender aside) but can I justify £100 more.
  18. Hi all, I currently have the 85th Mallard on pre order to go with my A1/A2/A3. There’s not much detail on it but I imagine it’s not the railroad version. It’s the pre speed record version so doesn’t come with the commemorative side plate. However I’m keen on the Dublo A4 range and Gannet seems to be available for under £300 (plus it was the first A4 my father saw at Peterborough New England, albeit in BR guise). I know it’s personal choice but which would be the better option? I’m happy with most of my ‘standard’ Hornby locos but the die cast is appealing. The 85th is £175 after Hornby discount and Gannet would be about £290. Choices choices! My Tornado, Happy Knight and Scotsman are all in BR green livery but I feel I need a garter blue in the collection.
  19. Sold out so there must have been a market! Pleased to know it comes with a £70 chip, bit of a bargain.
  20. Thanks all. Appreciate the detailed replies. Much more in the ‘loop’ now. Les - I hadn’t noticed that, however she is quite noisy going forward but silent in reverse. Could that be the issue. Like a clunking/tapping sound?
  21. A big loss for Hornby, but he’s done a superb job and was one of the reasons I got back into model railways. His enthusiasm and passion on the tv show highlighted to me how far Hornby had come since I last ‘played trains’ some 20 years ago.
  22. I know nothing about DCC (although I plan to upgrade in the future) and upon stripping my City of Bristol loco for servicing, I discovered this. No idea if it’s a sound chip or something else, but could someone identify it? Theres also 2 small wires under the pony truck, which attach to the tender connection. I broke one of these off but it doesn’t seem to affect the running.
  23. I assume it comes with the chip but as I’m still running DC I’m not overly fussed. Indeed you do get 10% discount. I only joined at the end of last year because it was worth doing for the discount on the Dublo Scotsman. In total, after the 10% discount and points from the Scotsman purchase, the Royal 66 has only cost me £70. Considering that’s the cost of a chip, it’s a good deal!
  24. Anyone else managed to pre order the latest collector club model? Took a few goes but my order went through in the end. Apparently theres only a handful left. I wasn’t sure at first but with the discount and Hornby points, it’s only about £70. I missed out on the Queen Elizabeth II purple model so I’ll settle for this instead. Still on the lookout for ‘70’ at a reasonable price!
  25. 4 wires in total. Still runs without the tender.
