  1. Thanks JimyJames. I've given everything a good clean (track, clips, wheels) and gone around making sure everything is fitted together nicely. The B17 is running ok on other curves' ovals. Im tempted to put it down to a mystery at this stage!
  2. Im on iOS and looks like the forum doesn't like Apple photos BUT it is where a double 3rd radius curve (R609) meets a long straight (R603) on an oval layout with one point on the opposite straight. It is loose track (not pinned) running over ikea anti slip felt and touching some 2mm static grass. Ive run a King Class and a K1 over it for a while now woth No issues. The B17/2 is happily going around a 2nd radius oval. Really appreciate you taking the time to try and help.
  3. Hi all! One loco (a B17) trips my layout intermittently but consistently always in the same spot. There is nothing special about that spot as far as I can tell. Other locos run fine without tripping the controller. Has anyone got any advice for stuff I could check or change etc? I'm at a loss!
  4. Hi all - I saw the last GWR HST service when it came through Reading and thought I'd get the First and Last set it marked the point I got into model railways. I want to run the loco with GWR Mk3 coaches like R4780B but the couplings don't seem to connect. I've replaced one coupling with the other in the pack (looks more like a usual one) which pulled out ok but the other won't budge and I can't get a good grip on the end I think I'm meant to squeeze even with tweezers. All advice and tips are welcome as I don't want to break my new coaches!
  5. Well this is all fascinating (and many apologies for not being clear, I kept changing my mind when writing the title and first post as I couldn't decide which was more fascinating). Thanks to everyone who has contributed. Lots of new ideas for my layout, and lots of Ideas for further research, but please don't stop now if you've got more to share!
  6. We all know about the famous express passenger service locos like the Flying Scotsman, Mallard and Hogwarts Castle (cue uproar!) but are there famous freight locos too that defied the odds, trumped the competition and made the critics scuttle into dark corners when they were proved needless doubters? Would love to know more and (ideally) enjoy them at 00 scale. Anyone got any famous freight locos to recommend at 00 gauge or full scale?
  7. Well I said I'd let you know if it was a gold mine and while that might be hard to argue either way, I think Fox sensed or knew what I was after from what I ordered and got it spot on! I say that because I'm not convinced I ordered the right things but they came through perfectly in a really timely way. Will be heading back.
  8. Good tip. So far the gnomes magic is holding firm but if not, that spring idea sounds good. Thanks.
  9. Great! Will try that. If you don't hear back, assume good news!! If I find a gold mine, I will be sure to report back!
  10. Thanks Atom3624 that was really helpful. I was looking on some sites but not Fox Transfers who do have it. Im wondering if my googling isn't working for the builders plate because I've got the name wrong. It's the oval plaque with doncaster etc on. Would you call it that?
  11. Hi all - I'm look to add etched nameplates, builders plate transfers and paint up some of the details on a railroad Peppercorn Tornado. I can't find the etched plates and builders plate transfer though. Anyone seen them please?
  12. Yes, and I like the extra bit of history too. If I've underspoof correctly that means that other PRs dont have the big metal bracket you can see in your photo a little aft of the cylinders. That right?
  13. The loco-gnomes must have visited in the night. Back to back seems fine and no issues now 😆 Thanks for help though.
  14. I'm new to this so what is the back to back measurement please? Also, what does the larger screw behind the bogie (from underneath) do? I think it isn't flush and the wheel might be catching it now.
  15. And actually, the more I look the more I think it is the front outside wheel catching on the underside of the chassis. It seems it can't move under the train without scraping against the underside. At slow paces it is stopping the front wheels turning at all.
