Just out of curiosity (and bearing in mind this question comes from a guy who knows nothing about it), why do you drill and glaze the portholes but use decals for the windows?

I'm a bit late to this thread but have you tried blasting the tape with a hair dryer as you remove it? The heat softens the adhesive a bit.
