  1. Ah - thought so. Looking forward to seeing it done!
  2. Wow, that looks good - what's the kit?
  3. Now I really like that - I do like early WWII USN aircraft - and you did a superb job. You'd never know you had issues with the clear parts. The magnets are a cool idea.
  4. @Topcat_Ern and @Valhalla - That's cool, you learn something new everyday. I can see Billy's point about it being a shame about the tips not being included then. Even more looking forward to his conversion if he posts it. Apologies Richard for the short thread high-jack. Really liking those decals, the shark mouth looks like it worked really well.
  5. @Dominic Thomas will do! It does indeed have some seriously large panel lines. They're not quite as bad as the good old Matchbox trenches, being a bit finer detailed, but still pretty substantial. It's certainly not going to hurt having a good few coats of paint on them. I do also like the surface details they've added, like all the sunken vents etc.
  6. Oh very much so! When I joined the Airfix club (I know you don't have to be a club member to be on here) it just seemed a natural thing to do to get more involved with the Airfix forum. I'm glad I did.
  7. Very cool Ian - I do like a Thunderbolt. I keep meaning to do that as well - I've never really made use of the Galleries on forums, I should do really.
  8. Just wanted to say that after a few weeks of being actively involved with the forum I'm really impressed with it - I really like the tone of the place, and there are some great Ladies and Gent's on here, it's been nice to talk to you all. Thanks to Airfix and the mod team for keeping it running!
  9. Some interesting tips for when I build mine. I'm a complete muppet when it comes to biplanes so any help is appreciated. That 1/48th build looks great Andy!
  10. Very true. I'm not saying I'm right or anything, and certainly don't want to come across as a JMN or anything - I don't actually know if the mk.VIII's were fitted with the long wingtips or not but I just have a feeling the high altitude Spits were based on an earlier airframe. That being said I'd like to see Billy's conversion either way - It's really interesting to see someone convert one of these big kits.
  11. Do you mean the high altitude mk.VI and VII? I could be wrong, but I'm pretty certain that they were based on the mk.V, and would have the earlier radiator configurations along with other changes for the pressurised cockpit?
  12. Excellent build - nicely done. I'm lucky enough to have had a flight in a Tigermoth, on a Twilight winters evening with the full moon between the wings and frost on the ground - magical. The second best thing that happened to me in the seven years I worked as an aircraft engineer.
  13. Just started getting some paint on the beast, having fitted the clear parts. Generally good fitting, although I had some fit issues with the front cockpit parts and had to fill some gaps with some PPP. Primer is Ultimate Primer brushed on, and lower gret is the grey from the Hataka USAF SEA paint set. I had to undercoat it with Humbrol #64 grey (superb paint imho) just to lighten the primer, as the light grey is pretty thin and doesn't cover well - I'm on coat number 3 and will probably need another. I've also started painting up the U/C bays with a Citadel white (I forget which one).
  14. Very nice work despite the issues.
  15. 🙃 Yes I know lol - that's why I posted it. Granted my writing was a tad confusing, but yes they should have yellow tips - I just forgot to add them.
  16. So it's a vac-formed base? Very nicely done that - the work you've added to give it depth and texture have paid off.
  17. Great work Ratch, they look excellent and came out very well.
  18. no idea where they came from or what they are, but I do like your painting.
  19. Nice one Richard, that came out looking nice. I like the red.
