  1. Great progress Richard! That does look like a nice kit.
  2. Hi All, So for my first WIP posted to the forum, I though I'd do something different from WWII and a bit old-skool - Airfix's old F-105F Thunderchief. Quite a rare kit now I think, as opposed to the old Airfix F-105G Wild Weasel kit which I suspect is this same moulding, just in a different box. This is a really basic kit - back form the (not so) good-old days of my youff. TO honest it's not the best F-105 kit, as it has some severe shape issues around the nose. But we won't worry about that - we're going to build this OOB for some pure nostalgia. Look - blue instructions and brown decals! Here are the Sprues - there's not to much to it. what's there looks good though. Plus and bag of bits and the fuselage taped together. Actually the fit doesn't seem that bad. I've not started it yet, as I'm planning too over the weekend. But just to get something done I've put the browned decals under a UV lamp, just to see if we can make them usable. If that doesn't work I do have some old Mirocscale AM decals. So there you go - updates to follow over the weekend. Feel free to post up some pic's if you've ever built one - it does seem to be a rare kit. Cheers!

    Lancaster

LOL! That's a very good point! 😁 A Stirling would be great. I'm actually surprised Airfix hasn't released a new tooling of all three four-engined RAF bombers from the war - I would have thought they'd have done that before the V-bombers to be honest. But maybe it's in the long-term plan. We do have a Libby to go with the B-17 now so who knows.
  4. I just wish someone would start a range of decent modern mouldings of General Aviation kits. Some of the big Cessna Twins would be awesome.

    Lancaster

To be honest, that's what's making me hold off. I do have the Revell Lancaster and the Italeri Stirling, along with all three Airfix V-bombers but I've nowhere to put then when built. Especially as we're planning to move in 5 years - I'd rather they didn't get damaged. But then saying that, maybe I should build one, and if it gets broken I can just build another...
  6. You learn by by doing young man... (Go for it!)
  7. Love it, that's probably the best build of one of these that I've seen! I really must finish mine... It's been languishing in bits for six months
  8. um... they slide don't they? ðŸĪŠ (sorry, couldn't resist).

    Lancaster

Okay confession time - I've never built an Lancaster (or any four engine bomber) - I shall hang my head in shame.
  10. Wow - that sounds like fun lol! Far to hot for me. Good point though.
  11. I don't know - I do like that catapult. Was that a kit, or did you scratch-build it?
  12. Very nice. Years ago when I worked for Lockheed Martin I bought some decals for a Hudson with the 'Sprit of Lockheed' markings. I really must get around to building one.
  13. Very true, but I don't think fitting strakes, a nose landing gear door, pitot and a nose light would have been difficult for the entry level starter. It doesn't look quite like a Hawk without them. But regardless, it's a really nice little kit.
  14. Very nice indeed - a lovely build! I picked one of those the other day.
  15. Thanks Ian! Yes it was the same boxing as yours (which is awesome btw), there were just a few missing bits that I replaced/added. I really don't know why Airfix didn't add things like the strakes and nose light to the kit, it wouldn't have been hard or made the build any more complicated.
  16. LOL! Thanks! Okay how's this, Airfix's Vintage Classic P-80C with the gear up!
  17. Nice subject! That was a nice little fix on the short shot - plasticard is great stuff.
  18. I find it next to impossible to brush paint clears - and like you I've tried all the brands I could find. The best still seems to be the old Humbrol enamel (white spirit based) Clears. Last year though I went over to using Mr Hobby 'Super Clear' rattle cans - they work very well over water based paints. Alas however, it does mean you have to mask which I hate. The Hudson looks excellent - another type I love that I've yet to build.
  19. Talking of starter sets - here's the recent F-35B kit, dressed up in 80's wrap-around camo and 617 sqn markings. A really nice kit if you get a chance to build one - blooming ugly aircraft though.
  20. Okay, here's one of mine - Airfix's starter set Hawk modded to a T.1A. I added (obviously) Sidewinders and an Aden cannon. I also scratched up the pylons, the missing strakes, nose gear bay doors, landing light and replaced the pitot. Paints are... Either Humbrol or Hataka, decals are from the Xtradecal Hawk sheet. Not my best build but it was a fun little project. alas the build is no more as I dropped a large book on it accidently (well, it fell off the shelf above my desk anyway). In some ways it was no big loss, as I wasn't really happy with it. I have several other Hawks in the stash anyway. Cheers!
  21. A lot of mine don't sound very watery, that's why I try and take the top off to add a bit of thinners. I have sometimes wondered about buying a pack of ball bearings and adding one of those too to aid shaking. Playing around with them and seeing how you get on seems the best option though. Strangeley, the Spitfire I built was painted with really old Gen 1 🙂
