  1. U can tell I’m a newbie - but tnx again. I’ve now got one of point motors working woooop. I changed to port 2 . I changed usb port on laptop ( ps it is a new one) I used all advice above and click the point moved under software control. I now need to add other points and so on. what wonderful peeps u are taking time to throw out suggestions even though I keep getting stuff wrong. cheers
  2. Hi - tnx again im using 1) r8242 hornby point motor 2) wiring c= black : red n green +- 3) im connecting to track to try to work points while prog to read n write 4) yes to controller A and R8247
  3. Sorry for mix up with terminology. I have only one acc decoder but it was recommended using 5 as the first port address - in these forums. I was wondering about the significance of the 6629 it defaults to on connecting a point motor. I have written this as the initial port address and checked without a point motor connected . This then drops to the 6629 , 6630, etc values on connecting a point motor. again tnx form speedy replies guys
  4. Hi guys help plz following very detailed instructions in this forum for setting up above the following happens. As soon as I connect (correct wiring) a hornby point motor to the accessory decoder the points do not change within software. When I read back the the settings the output port no.s have changed to 6629,6630,6631 and 6632. If I don’t connect the point it’s reads 5,6,7 and 8. My initial thought was I wired point to decoder wrongly but I have checked this many times. I have reset decoder to factory settings once - still no joy. any thoughts - many thnx if u reply
  5. Tnx guys for replies. I would fit a hm7000 but they seem to be larger in size and am worried it will not fit. I have read the first reply and am trying to understand and each step and decide whether it’s worth the damage risk.
  6. Hi I’m just considering buying hornby lion loco - it has a next18 socket. Can you suggest the best decoder chip to fit? I’m not interested in the 7000 range yet but any make that will fit into above would be ok. I’ve seen guage master dcc n18 omni on Amazon - has anyone got that working on above loco!? Or do hornby do a chip - cannot see one on their pages though. many tnx in anticipation
  7. Hi I’ve just got round to using Elink on my layout. I have a hornby dcc accessory decoder which I want to connect to points. How do you do it? I have read the railmaster and decoder guides but I’m confused. I need a dummy step by step guide to put it all together. I do mean very detailed and very dummy guide and very step by step - I’m new to this dcc stuff. Plz help - thank u in anticipation. Ps I have elink and software working already.
  8. Check out you tube video - by Jennifer Kirk - she tries decoders in non hornby trains.- I’m still interested in any make - particularly small steam oo guage locos. Thnx for posts so far. ps rumours that hornby are making a small board for their decoders - any news
  9. I would be interested in the smallest loco that these decoders/ sound/ stay alive have been successfully fitted too (oo guage).
  10. This is all very useful info - many tnx. More plz if poss guys.

  12. Many tnx for replies - I look forward to hearing about other successful loco installs.
  13. Hi I’m about to buy a loco and hm7000 decoder and would like to know who has managed to successfully fit the decoder. with / without sound with / without stay alive A full list would be nice also.
  14. Further to size - a list of which hornby locos are suitable for each decoder would be nice as I’m ready to buy both. May be a nice spreadsheet would be great. Tnx
