  1. thanks RAF, but it is over a year old . john
  2. O K thanks for that, i guess the best thing for me to do now is just use the decoder as a normal loco driver john
  3. sorry Chris i meant NOT working but i have used another decoder which is working and i have also tried 2 speakers on the troublesome decoder and neither give sound but both ok on the later decoder so that is why i said that the sound is not working on the troublesome decoder, john
  4. All sorted now thanks, the sound part of the decoder is not working Thanks for all the assistance john
  5. i am sorry but i have misled you all. i only described the loco to try and prove (find ) the age of the loco. I have actually made my own modification and fitted a motor that looks very much like an x8202. i have actually fitted the same sort of motor to other old locos and all work well on DC. secondly my peppercorn sounds work ok on the main but i thought that i could test them on the program track.
  6. I have fitted a TTS decoder to an OLD Flying Scotsman. the R850/5 body is a Hornby railways built in Britain. The motor was an old X04 or X.500. Also while trying to fit the decoder into the body the front round panel fell out. I have fitted an 8 pin socket with the 4 main wires connected as a motor drive it is good, but I do not have any sound. I have selected items and ticked of the same 4 functions as my new R3663tts BR peppercorn. These functions show up on my throttle control but nothing happens Do I need more wiring?? I am also unable to test the operation of functions on my Peppercorn, I try but nothing happens when on my program track! any help or suggestions very much appreciated john Running RailMaster pro with eLink via lap top.
  7. Since my enquiry I found that by putting a number in cv number 5 namely top speed that the loco runs. The decoder is from rails,no RoS -218, I entered 32 . I also have another decoder RoS-8HP, which acted just the same ,but i have not got round to trying it again. I would like to say that I do know about forcing decoder on the screen, but at first attempt to read it the system could not read it and at that point I had no way of finding out which one it was. I contacted rails and they said that the hornby system will not work them, so in desparation i tried it again and that was when it came up with dcc concepts zmini. Thanks again John
  8. I have recently purchased a decoder from a well known supplier, which apparently does not work with Hornby. The second time I tried to read it, it came up with being a DCC decoder, the version DCC Concepts zmini. This is a decoder that I have in use, so I fitted to a loco but found that when I tried to move it, my eLink control said that max speed is only 1 mph and so the loco will not move. Surely this can be corrected by altering a CV or two. Or should I just save the decoder for future possible use. Any help or suggestions would be helpful Thanks John
  9. thank you all for all the help. that is sorted and disposed of john
  10. further to my last reply i have worked out that the wires were missing from the harness so have removed that part that was left on the decoder, then tested the decoder, which is unreadable even after telling the tester which decoder it is. so i have found out a lot by being on this forum and lost a decoder. thanks again to all JB
  11. Thanks for the quick replies. It seems that I have been cheated by someone as this decoder with some wires on is obviously not a Sapphire. Although upon further inspection maybe it is a Sapphire and someone had tried to solder wires on it. Is there a part number for a decoder harness and would it be out of production like the Sapphire. Thank you all very much JB
  12. Hi all, i have sapphire decoder and wish to try and refit wires back onto it so i am looking for a picture of one which clearly shows colours and positions Thanks again for any assistance
  13. Thank you for the quick reply. I was wondering about that as the black wire is very short and connects to the motor frame/chassis. I will check that before anything else JB
  14. I have an old (well,I think it is old although it is in very good condition,R542 set) that I want to fit a decoder to. It is a tender driven loco. Am I right in thinking that I can just cut each brush feed wire and connect the wires from the decoder to these 4 wires that I now have. ??thanking you all for any comments.
  15. sorry, i replied quickly after reading only part of RAF 96,s reply so thanks to every one, i did try putting 8 into cv 8, but it did not work. secondly the decoder must be in the list for it to operate the loco in the first place. and there was no address number initally, but i put 9 in, and that works it. also thanks to Chrissaf , i did not look in the search, but will do now.
