  1. Flashbang and Fishmanoz. My controller is a select. Thanks for your advice but my problem seems to start from the point you have finished. In the first instance, having wired both point motors and connected to the point decoder port 1 I had both working but one set normal whilst the other reversed. This as pointed out (sorry for all the puns) was not what was required. I reversed the connections to one point motor then found that neither would respond. (Decoder set to 61). Trying to solve the problem I disconnected one and tried to operate with just one connected - no response. I know you are all thinking bad connection as was I. So I eliminated all connections and connected the point motor directly to the decoder port 1. Now pressing the arrow buttons on the R8247 and the motor will work one way but not return except, of course, manually whereupon it will again operate in one direction. Connected to port two (which seems to need reprogramming to 62 - shouldn't this be automatic?) the motor now works in both directions. I've not yet tried to reconnect both run round points. Just thought I should solve the basics.
  2. 96 RAF. Many thanks. However I must as a tech. innocent I follow as far as disconnect from the track but thereafter - Prog connection? value 8 the CV 8? My controller is a select - firmware version?
  3. Mod note - you have fallen into the newbie trap and used the blue button with the white arrow to reply which has repeated my post without adding any further commentary. Simply scroll down to the bottom of the page to the box with the green reply button and write your reply in there.
  4. Run round loop with points at each end controlled from connection 1, R8247. Both work but wrong way from each other. I changed red and green for one of them now they don't work. I've tried operating one only but it will only work one way. Connected to connection 2 and point works fine both ways. Have I damaged connection 1? Also tried a new point but with the same result.
  5. Faulty point insulation seems to be favourite. I replaced it with another - same problem but then another and the problem went away. I tried the first point further along the layout and the problem came back. I'm pretty confident, DS, that the clips are correctly fitted as other points are functioning correctly. Thanks to all for your help. I think we've got to the bottom of it.
  6. Yes it does. I have several other points that I can try I have tried one with similar results but, given time, I will try others. It does seem to indicate a fault with the point ( the fault shows as soon as I connect the point which is isolated from the rest of the layout) but, on close inspection, I can't see anything that might short out. I will also try other configurations to see if I can bypass this particular setting. Thanks, Roger, for your help. I shall report back.
  7. I have isolated the siding and run locomotives successfully. It is only when I connect to the point (which is isolated from the rest of the layout) that I get the OL message. I have not tried any other controller, the only alternative I have is DC.
  8. Select was bought as part of the digital train set and behaved as it should. I am now using it on a layout of my own design in which the power track is part of a siding and separated from the layout by a double isolating track for programming purposes. I have replaced this with an R600 but the problem still exists. I have tried turning the point so that it becomes trailing but still the same result.
  9. I am connecting a digital power track to R8072 point in the trailing direction with digital electric point clips in place. When I switch on the select control I get an OL indication with red flashing light. If I remove the clip from the route set and leave the other in place then the select powers up normally but if I then change the point the OL appears with red flashing light. I think I must be creating a short but can't work out where.
  10. Order placed on line via the website. I didn't look too closely after seeing "4 pin" on the packaging. The R number on the delivery note was that for 8 pin. Thanks 96RAF for putting me right as to title not salutation. I tend to go along with the decoders being put in the wrong picking bin but surely the packer should check the correct item is being packed and ordering via the website automatically inserts the correct R number.
  11. Is anyone out there having the same problem as I am. I ordered a standard 8 pin decoder and took delivery of a 4 pin decoder which I returned. Having more locos to update, I then ordered six 8 pin decoders and promptly received six 4 pin decoders. Contacted Hornby who arranged collection of the six wrong decoders and delivery of seven 8 pin decoders. Would you believe, today I received seven 4 pin decoders. Contacted Hornby again but spoke to a different agent who said she would pass the problem on to my original contact who would ring back. She didn't. I rang ( before they closed) and spoke to my original contact who said she knew nothing about the issue but would sort it and ring back. Presently, she hasn't. Is anyone else ordering 8 pin decoders and having 4 pin delivered? Obviously the answer is to use other suppliers.
