  1. No sorry should have said, the motor is a 3 pole ringfield motor
  2. So I have 12.9-13 ohms across all three terminals
  3. Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure the part is all original ie not rewound. If caused by overheating, I'm guessing this would reduce it's efficiency?
  4. Hi I have a tender drive loco with a 3 pole ringfield motor with running issues (different loco and issue to my other thread hence separated). The motor has been fully serviced (rebuild, clean, light oil) but still the issue remains. The loco starts running fine but then after a minute or two, it gradually slows down to a complete stop. If I then give it a nudge it shoots off at rapid speed and then settles into running fine. It does this every time I run it. Any ideas? Thanks
  5. Hi I have a loco with a 3 pole armature where the windings have turned purple. The motor is down on power even after a full rebuild service. Is the purple colour on the winding a sign that the part needs replacing and will no longer be working efficiently (hence lack of power) Thanks
  6. Well this morning all is running fine. I can only assume the storm interfered with either the decoder or my controller. Bizarre
  7. Hi all I was just testing a Hornby Black 5 with a TTS decoder I just installed this afternoon and all was going well, until I made a change to a CV at the exact same time as a thunder clap. Now, the sounds still work and it chuffs but no power is being sent to the motor. I have reset the decoder a couple of times but still the same. Anyone know if lightening can affect DCC? Thanks
  8. Hi all, I'm in need of a new idler gear set for a Westward Ho R2609 due to a split in the single gear. The part # is X8849 however on various retailers who have that part in stock, there is a warning to say that this gear set will not fit the rebuilt Bulleids as, when Hornby produced those locos along with other 4-6-2 locos, they used two types of idler gear, but now only produce one type as a spare, which will not fit the rebuilt Bulleids. Any suggestions of an alternative / comparable part that could be used in place or a source of a gear set which will fit the rebuilt Bulleid locos? Thanks Throppers
  9. Problem solved! On trying to re-quarter the wheels it became clear that the axles were worn as the wheels turned on the axle too easily. New wheelset fitted (used the wheels from the Princess Class which are approx 1mm smaller but much cheaper and fit fine). Now runs smooth as butter!
  10. thanks. Just to confirm when you say “yes it is” you mean that it’s possible to interchange those Princess class and Duchess class wheel?
  11. The wheel weights are moulded off centre on one of the sets of wheels compared to the other, that’s normal.
  12. So late yesterday evening I remove the front axle to play with the quartering. Whilst I haven’t got it perfect yet, changing the quartering did worsen or lessen the issue to I’m happy it is related to the quartering. i quickly realised that the wheels are quite loose on the axle. It didn’t take much effort at all to turn the wheel on the axle so its worn and needs a new wheel set. The wheelset for this loco (Duchess Class) is X9090, however the Princess Class wheels (X9121M) are a lot cheaper. Can anyone advise if these are geometrically the same and therefore interchangeable (aesthetic appearance isn’t an issue) thanks
  13. Chrisaff, thanks that’s really informative I will give that a go tomorrow and see if it helps.
  14. Hi all. Further video below to answer some points raised. https://youtu.be/xQatG-3eKp4 Having checked all the rods and crank pins, everything is fine with no snagging or catching at all. Having pushed it along the track it runs along fine but this is a bit of a false test admin reality the drive comes from the centre axle and the front and rear axle are turned by the con-rods.
