  1. Thanks very much ☺️ To be quite honest, I can't remember I'm afraid πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ I finished building it around a year ago... lot of water has passed under the bridge since then 😬
  2. Well, after completing the painting stage and now a coat of Gloss Varnish has been applied ready for the decal application, I am well happy with how the nose cone repair looks. Obviously I know it's not 100% perfect and my builds never will be, but I definitely can't really tell any damage had occurred! Few sessions applying the mass of small decals (always a bore in my opinion, but they do look good once done) then a coat of Satin Varnish to tone the Gloss down then I'm calling this one done πŸ‘Œ
  3. Ok... current state of play. Once the damaged nose cone was completely hard again I sanded down the affected area and also used my craft knife to create a criss-cross pattern 'key' to ensure the Plastic Putty bonded properly. I gave the Plastic Putty a good couple of days to completely harden off and this morning it was sanded. A few 'potholes' have appeared but that's not a problem as I've now just added some more Plastic Putty which will be sanded back down in once fully hardened. I am so happy that the nose cone now appears to be back to its normal curvature! Once the Plastic Putty and sanding job is done it should then be ready for some Grey Primer to help me see better where the panel lines will need to be re-scribed. Thanks for the tips Ratch & Sailorman, much appreciated! πŸ‘β˜ΊοΈ
  4. Yes, I have clearly been a master of my own downfall and used an excessive amount... it is starting to harden up now so once fully hardened I can start the repair process. Luckily that lower nose section has minimal panel lines that will need re-scribing.
  5. Thanks for the input guys.. so happy to hear it can be rectified! My normal glue I use, except on clear parts, is the Humbrol Liquid Poly (picture attached) so was kind of expecting more of less the same results, however that in the little tube does appear to be a thicker glue... more than likely my issue is down to using too much!! I will leave it alone for a good week before making a 'key' on the affected area... I have in the past added sprue plastic to the glue (pictured) to use a filler... I wonder if that will be a better option than Plastic Putty?? My thinking is that it should dry harder??
  6. Hi all. Three days ago (Tuesday) I used some Humbrol Poly Cement I had spare from an old starter set kit to secure the ballast weight in the nose cone of the 1:72 Valiant. The next day I mated the two fuselage halves together and in doing so I noticed the area where I used the Poly Cement was very soft! It has damaged the outer skin of the fuselage, clearly visible in the photo and has ruined the model unless there is a way to repair this? First thing I'm thinking is to use Plastic Putty Filler but then I'm thinking it will all crumble off once I start sanding it down as there isn't a hole for it to latch to and secondly, maybe cut out the damaged section and use plastic card but then I don't think I'll ever get the correct curvature... The photos shows the glue I used and also the damaged nose cone area. It is still soft to touch this morning, surely the glue should of cured by now? Am I better off to just leave it alone for a good week or so then try repairing? Maybe I used too much glue? But being a Humbrol product I didn't think it would cause any issues...
  7. Thanks once again for you input Ratch :-) I use the Humbrol Clear Gloss Varnish after painting/airbrushing the completed model and before applying the decals on the Matt paints.. I trust this too shouldn't really cause any reaction issues on a fully cured mixed Enamel/Acrylic painted model??
  8. Hi all Sorry to drag this subject up again, but it seems fairly relevant to the subject heading. Should there be any reaction issues if I was to combine using Humbrol Enamels and Humbrol Acrylic Droppers on the same model? Obviously giving the correct amount of drying time between the different paints. I have so many Enamels built up over the years it seems such a waste to not use them anymore but, in time, there will soon be numbers that I need to use that are only available in Acrylic form...
  9. A 1:24 Sea Fury or Tempest πŸ‘Œ
  10. Thanks for that advice ☺️ no harm being a 'cheapskate' in my book... if it does the same job with same results then happy days πŸ‘Œ So are they in fact the same Dropper bottles as what is available on the Airfix website or is 'Gen 2' indeed a newer formula yet to be released???
  11. Ratch, I have watched a YouTube video review of these Dropper bottles however I am now slightly confused... The Airfix/Humbrol website shop states in the item description that these Dropper bottles can work in conjunction with the Humbrol Acrylic Thinners for airbrushing. However, the video said the Thinner was currently being worked on and not yet available? Admittedly, it was uploaded some 10 months and the Droppers in the video also show 'Gen 2' on the label... is there a newer collection of these Acrylic Droppers yet to be showing on the Airfix/Humbrol stop page?? Here is a link to the video I watched:
  12. Absolutely, I never buy a full range just build it up and add to it as I go along. It's all trial & error until we find what we're happy with although I do like to have all the paints required for each kit before starting the build. The Hellcat won't be started until I've finished the 1:32 Lanc so I've plenty of time to make my mind up and go from there. As my LMS owner is a model maker too I think it's definitely worth another visit for a chat to get his input also. I do know he stocks a full range of Vallejo acrylics so if I opted to go down that route I'd need to find a Humbrol/Vallejo conversion chart of sorts to get the correct match. I will always go to his store 1st to support his business, it's always been the case that if he can't get what I need then I resort to ordering online..
  13. This is exactly the results I am finding with the Tamiya jars! They do indeed airbrush fantastically well but when it comes to hand brushing it looks like its been applied with a stick! You mention a retardant being added, perhaps this is where I'm going wrong with them as I haven't added that? I have a few jars that I added the X-20A thinner to in order to airbrush it... looks like I need to find out what this retardant is?
  14. Thanks... it's all food for thought ☺️
  15. I guess you could say its a case of me not doing my homework first πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚. General thoughts I feel from reading back through some of the posts/comments is that Humbrol are phasing out the Enamels. Definitely need to do more homework as I'd like to know how to use them in an airbrush as well as hand brushing... Only issue for me (if I go ahead and convert to Droppers) is that my local model shop only stocks the Vallejo acrylics so looks like I'd have to go further afield or maybe order direct from Airfix themselves. I'd much rather stick with the Humbrol brand, better the devil you know than forking out on different brands and finding the results are poor like I've found with Tamiya...
  16. Morning everyone, I have always used the Humbrol Enamel tins for my Airfix builds, however I am finding now that there seems to be a good sized portion of the enamels now discontinued. Personally, I am baffled by this decision from Humbrol as there would still be a vast number of Airfix kits out there that would require these paints. Only yesterday I went through the instructions of my 1:24 Hellcat kit and already found a handful of paint numbers required but no longer available in enamel tin format! Off the top of my head enamels 74, 123, 125, 224 and 226 are discontinued that I need. The Hellcat was only released in 2019, seems stupid in my opinion! As the subject heading suggests, my question is what are people's opinions please on the Acrylic Dropper bottles which seem to be growing in range numbers (151 colours according to the Airfix website) compared to the Enamel tins (now only 86 colours available according to the Airfix website) ?? Would it be the better option to convert to these droppers? I like to build my kits using the same brand/type of paint, I don't like the idea of mixing brands or enamels with acrylics so I have a choice to make before starting the Hellcat! I am currently using Tamiya Acrylics on my 1:32 Lancaster build (HK Models kit) and I must say their new paint formula is nothing like it used to be so already I have made the choice to not use them in the future but will continue for the rest of the build. Thanks all, I look forward to the suggestions! :-)
  17. It will be a full year from the date of purchase however I recommend waiting until 31st January 2023 to join as that is the date Airfix confirmed to me that the package changes over to the 2023 contents πŸ‘
  18. Got an email reply from Airfix this morning stating that the 2023 package will launch on 31st January 2023.... I'll hang fire till then 😊
  19. Afternoon everyone, Does anyone have any idea when the membership changes over from the 2022 contents to the 2023 package?? My club membership runs out tomorrow (1st December 2022) but in my head it's a bit pointless renewing now if they are going to change the package contents on 1st January. I have sent email & Facebook Messenger queries direct to Airfix but as yet no reply... Thanks in advance
  20. Someone who obviously didn't realise the War had finished some time before! πŸ˜‚
  21. Thanks 😊 I looked into getting the metal undercarriage but never actually got around to ordering it... kit offerings have so far held up πŸ‘ Maybe, in time, if they do collapse under the weight I can adjust my display to show it landing with damaged undercarriage and, if needed, bend the propeller blades to mimic them striking the ground...
