  1. As this is a relatively recent post thought I’d chip in. I’ve got three TTs The R408 (which I think looks the best) and both the newer R070 with seven 7exit and R411 with the 13 (I think) exits. The later two are really poor performers. However I’ve converted my R408 to DCC, with a DPDT switch between the decoder and the TT motor, that allows me to also use the DC rocker switch as well. I’m in the process (with help) getting JMRI to run it. So far so good. To do that I also placed a magnet under the bridge (it holds itself there attached to the underside of a rail. Then 6 reed switches buried in the board underneath. Works a treat. So why this. Well I’m looking for another R408, as I’m working with a supplier who will make a kit for all three TT models to convert them to a stepper motor operation attached under the board. Removing the motors, gears and the Geneva gear. (That’s the bit that allows the hesitation) the R408 works without an autorever. Where as the later models require one. so question any got an old R408 (broken is ok) they don’t want or to sell? Would a kit do you think be of interest to convert them to a stepper motor?
  2. Does anyone have an old Hornby R408U or R408 electrically operated turntable for Super4/System6 track, they don’t want? Need not work as want to rebuild it to use a stepper motor Mod note - your phone number removed as it breaks forum rules to publish personal information. Also buying and selling on this forum is not allowed. There is no direct message system to put buyer and seller in contact in any case. Your original oversize text reformatted to normal.
  3. Dear Hornby, I am sure you have a strategic reason for your collector’s club annual offering. I can only presume you are trying to attract a certain demographic of collector, probably aimed at younger members. However, the word collector suggests something of high value or a revered item. I think the loco offering each year is not fulfilling that objective. Over time and in my case I will shortly have my third gift loco, I have no use or see no value in the gift. I am at a point that in reality I am paying a subscription to receive 4 magazines a year and is it worth it, No. My grandson (18mths!) ends up with the Locos and even he does not now yet he’s got them! Of greater value would be a unique wagon, or similar rolling stock that most could fit onto an existing layout, perhaps that might encourage a further purchase of similar items. Or a generic line side accessory such a signal box, signal or similar. At least add value to someones collection! Given I am of a demographic that now has disposable income, I think the club membership is questionable. Maybe the answer is two categories “Junior Members” (give them the toy train) and “lifelong collector”.(wagon or valued item)
