  1. Hi Going Spare, I think the previous coupling may have been a bit tight. I will adjust the new one as suggested. Thank you for the advice.
  2. I am about to replace the coupling on the motor unit of the javelin. My question is ‘should the coupling be screwed down tight so it does not move or loose in order for it to move horizontally across the coupling aperture on the motor unit?’
  3. Just to confirm power is via bus wire from the Prodigy, it’s an 8 pin Hornby decoder and cv 29 is enabled. Any further suggestionsRegards Misty Dog
  4. I have a four year old doc hst. I use a Prodigy Advance Controller. Intermittently the train will move off without the trains assigned number being inputted to the controller. Any suggestions would appreciated.Misty Dog.
  5. Hello all, can anyone tell me where I can find clear instructions with illustrations on how to fully quarter a Hornby Loco. Many thanks. Mistydog
  6. Thanks to all who responded. Feeling happy now about adding additional pick ups. Advice is much appreciated.
  7. I made a post about the use of stay alives for this model and received several replies. The model runs really well (most of the time) but stalls on Hornby points. It has been suggested to me that instead of a stay alive I should look at adding extra pick ups to the power car. If I was to do this I would buy the commercially available pick up kits. I have hard wired a Hornby 8 pin decoder to the model. Can anyone give me advice on how I would wire the additional pick ups to the Ringfield motor. I would probably be getting the Dcc pick ups.I am a real novice at wiring so detail about exactly how the wiring should be done would be very much appreciated.
  8. Hi folks,I am interested to hear your thoughts and experiences with stay alives. Thanks in advance Mistydog
  9. Hi Going Spare, many thanks for the reply. I think I will leave the brushes alone for now. The performance on most of my layout is very good.
  10. Just bought this second hand. I tried to service it but could not get the brushes out. I tried everything I can think of. It runs really well on straight track but cuts out on my Hornby points. Any suggestions on how to get the brushes out. Has anyone experience on stay alive with the hst. Thanks in advance. Mistydog.
  11. I bought a new class 66 about a year ago. I want to add some weight to increase traction. I have numerous 10 and 20 grams weights. My questions are how much weight should I add and should I only add weight over the driving wheels. I want the engine to pull around 6/7 carriages. Any help would be appreciated.Thank you . Misty dog
  12. Hi Chrissaf many thanks for your sugestion.I will take a look at the drive train gears, this makes a lot of sense.
  13. I recently upgraded the ringfield motor on an hst to a cd motor. The hst runs well with the c.d. motor, loads of power ,no derailments, no problems at points etc.The issue I have is that as the model moves the power car rocks back and forth across the width of the track. The rocking seems to come predominately from the rear of the power car where the cd motor is housed.I have checked as many things as I can think of with no success.I looked at back to backs, axles, bogie frames etc they all seem fine.Any suggestions would be appreciated.
