  1. Good Morning All, I've searched (what I think) are the relevant words/terms but can't really find what I am after, so I apologise in advance if this has been asked before. I am looking at purchasing a layout (2nd hand) from eBay. It looks like a lovely set up, ideal for what me & my boys are after. It's an 8x4 layout 3 3 loops. The points are currently manual. How difficult is it (in reality) to retrofit these to become electrified? Thanks, George`
  2. Thanks for everyone's replies. I'd just like to buy a Flying Scotsman Locomotive in 00 gauge with smoke deflectors which match it's real-life guise. I'm surprised it isn't readily available to buy in model-form considering they have been on the real engine for so many years - 50 years or so - as I see a picture in the BBC article mentioned above dated 1963. Is it possible to buy a Flying Scotsman and retrofit smoke deflectors to it? I could 3d print them if someone had a CAD model of them I suppose. Has anyone tried that avenue before? Thanks
  3. Good Morning All, I have tried searching this matter, but can't see an existing thread on it. I was wondering why the Hornby Flying Scotsman doesn't have the smoke deflectors fitted? They're a (very) long-term/old modification on the real engine, along with the double chimney, yet this isn't reflected on the model? I would like to buy one for my two sons' model railway as they love FS, but would like to get one which is closer to the real locomotive. Any ideas? Thanks
  4. Good Afternoon All, My son & I would like to get a Flying Scotsman (00 Gauge, DC). He's not too fussed about which version (he's only 6 1/2), but I would like to have one with the smoke deflectors already fitted. Could anyone let me know what number(s) this model is within Honrby range? I'm searching the endless pages of eBay etc and can't find one with the smoke deflectors. Thanks in advance, George
  5. This is what I bought - my kids love Kinder Chocolate! Hopefully it will fit on the rails, and can at least be 'pushed' by an engine if the couplings aren't compatible. (I am a total novice at this, and will look in to it in more detail next time!) https://ibb.co/DbrqHqM Thanks all!
  6. Nope, no I did not.... Whoops! I didn't realise that was required.
  7. Well, I'm sitting at the airport after a hectic week, but managed to visit a wonderful model shop in Cologne today. Am I allowed to post the name, or is that advertising? Bought my son (me) a Kinder Chocolate coach, made by Märklin for €15.00. Having never bought brand new stock before, I've no idea if that's good but I like it. The shop is excellent, opened today after moving down the street. I think I was one of the first customers. Cheers, George
  8. Thanks for your knowledge Norman (and everyone else). I'm going Monday-Friday next week, and staying near to our office in Hürth. Hopefully get a few hours to browse. Cheers,George
  9. Good Afternoon All, Many thanks for your helpful replies. I'm not sure what I was looking for really, but wondered if there was any benefit to buying it over there. I like the idea of getting something with Köln on it, some trucks or similar. I am very new to this hobby, and setting up a 00 gauge layout for me and my 5yo son to use and build together over time (with the 2yo to perhaps enjoy in a few years also). This is my 3rd trip to Cologne in as many years for work (we have an office in Hürth near to Brühl). I will probably have half a day or so to myself in Cologne and wondered if anyone had any experience. As mentioned, I am new to this and didn't want to purchase something that wasn't compatible with what I am trying to build at home (which is exclusively Hornby at the moment). Thanks again, George
