  3. thanks everyone for the advice, alot to think about where to go next. Just wondering as we live out glasgows east side is there any model shops within about 2 hours drive that have displays etc that are good we can take our son to try get some ideas and see what he wants. thanks
  4. Sorry everyone for not being clear enough yesterday. Thanks everyone for the suggestions so far. So after looking through the comments and over some up coming stock and hopefully I'll clear up some more what it is we are looking for. Our son currently has the western messenger set and a diesel type loco with the track expansions up to D, currently we use the supplied mat and build it each time on the floor when he wants to play with it. He is asking Santa for the flying scotsman tts model cause he likes the sounds and whistle etc. We have looked at the differences of DC and DCC and decided that we are going to get him the flying scotsman tts when it comes out, we are also looking at getting the mixed freight DCC when it comes out so we replace his DC locos and have them all DCC. What we were wondering mainly is. What's the best way to make his track semi permanent as space is limited however we were thinking about using a wooden board to put it on that can moved in and out the main room so what's the best material to put it on and how to put it down? Since we'll have 2 sets and some extra track we want to try use 3 different lines for the trains to run on in circles/ovals so what's the best kind of track to use, sections or flexi? Space wise we have measured and are looking at a board roughly 5ft x 7ft to work with and we are hoping we can get a tunnel section and maybe a raised section over the tunnel along with a few small stations and road section in it, although I know it might not possible given space restrictions.
  5. Yeah I have been looking at that and know that's there is a difference and I'm also prepared to keep the tracks for the dcc loco seperate from the analogue ones so can use the 2 different controllers.
  6. Hi My son who's 6 has the western messenger set along with extensions A to D and an extra analogue loco, he seen and loves the new flying scotsman dcc loco and has asked if Santa can bring him it and new train track. We haven't put the track down on anything solid yet as room has been very limited but are looking at setting it on a 6x4 board so can bring it out and use it without the hour long set up. My question is really with what he has so far and the idea of using the 6x4 what track can we add and what's he best way to move forward so he can use the new dcc flying scotsman? Thanks in advance
