  1. I am looking for a little advice from those who have a better knowledge of the hobby. I have a number of aging but close to the heart Triang Locos, they have those gearde/knurled wheel surfaces, I imagine this topic has come up before, but sorry, I couldn't find it. My question (s) are . Is it the geared wheel surface that makes them so noisy, or some other basic reason? . Do these wheels cause problems on modern track? .Is it feasible to change them, if so is it difficult and basically is it worth doing? Thank you in advance for any replies. Sorry if you have seen this post under a different heading of knurled wheels, I was assisted to the correct terminology by the helpful Mod. Quay.
  2. Fantastic advice all round, but to look for a positive, my Lima 0-4-0 Deisel Shunter, (same model as yours) works a treat on modern track, once cleaned up and serviced, (your next task Lol!), yours should too, you can continue the memories with that. Hope you and the children enjoy your rediscovery and good luck.
  3. I got this years Santa Express to run around the Christmas tree for the Grandkids (And myself to be entirely honest!). In its little oval of track it is fine but I decided to give it a go around my layout, that wagon "Santa's Sleigh in transit" is so light it will not do a proper circuit of a normal layout without derailing. Maybe it is my track laying or something? Is anyone else finding the same problems?
  4. Speaking as a newbie, which attracted me to the Collectors Club, A new engine raises the excitment levels a lot more to me and maybe others who are beginning to either build a collection or renew long gone collection than a piece of rolling stock. I can fully understand the views of those more experienced collectors who have extensive stocks of engines to choose from and maybe, want to remain in Era and the like, but as a way to attract new entrants to the hobby and especially the youngsters, who will be the future, I really appreciate, having paid the joining fee and receiving an engine in effect for free, rather than a peice of rolling stock, the intricacies of which will be lost on a beginner and to be fair, because of that lack of knowledge and experience, would be the same as receiving a piece of rolling stock which could be picked up elsewhere for under a Fiver. Nope Engines every time for me!
  5. Hi All, I have just joined and am starting up a layout after many may years away from the hobby. I love this little shunter, it does look a little toyish, but as a new newbie, I wondered if putting the engine in context might help with it's image? I took this photo of how I am using the engine, I am sure you will all have thought about this and dismissed it, but it works for me and gives the Collection Shunter a run-out here and there./media/tinymce_upload/5e3dd3c333c28b2a68897ee2f7adced1.jpg
