  1. Good morning :) I could do with some advice. I have messed up the varnish on the tail of the 1/72 airfix mustang. I had put humbrol clear (acrylic) on via a brush. It didn't seem to self level very well and became quite patchy. It my mistaken wisdom I thought if I applied a satin coat via a rattle can it would even up the surface.....however...it hasn't!! Plus in my frustration I have over applied it and it is now a bit powdery!! Should I reapply a coat of gloss clear and then reapply the satin? Furthermore, can humbrol clear been thinned with water? it did seem to go a bit claggy quite quickly when brushing it on. Many thanks and happy modelling! Morning all,
  2. I tend to stick to the thinners associated with the brand of paint you’re using or water. In terms of consistency I mix the paint until it flows a bit like milk :)
  3. Hi. A quick question, can you apply humbrol clear satin over Humbrol clear gloss without causing an issue? I’ve done the clear gloss for decals and enamel panel lining but want a satin finish overall. Many thanks in advance.
  4. I hear you….but I went with what is listed in the Eduard painting guide 😬
  5. Thanks for your replies all, much appreciated and I’ll look into those options. It’s a tad frustrating to have brought something which is supposed to have a chrome finish that doesn’t 😆!!
  6. Thanks for your reply Capt T. I’lI have a look at getting some plastikote and some black primer then though I fear this will make the project quite an expensive one!! Is the Humbrol acrylic chrome silver spray that poor? It’s not metalcote.
  7. Afternoon all. I am wanting to make a 1/72 spitfire mk XIc and I have opted to do the 'chrome silver' one MJ250. I have purchased a can of humbrol acrylic spray 'chrome silver' 191 and have 2 questions: Should I prime the model before spraying this on? and what is the best approach for putting the decals on? I have been following previous advice that suggests using humbrol clear first then applying the decals and then a matt clear varnish. On this occasion I was going to use humbrol clear instead of matt but will this still interfere with the effect of the chrome paint? I hope that make some sort of sense!!
  8. Thanks Peebeep. That’s a great looking little spit :)
  9. Tried to send a photo of the box but it doesn’t seem to have up loaded. The no of the box is A68206. Your spits look good :)
  10. EDIT: Please reply outside the quote box.
  11. Thanks for your reply and advice Peebeep. I'll look to do that in future. I guess it struck me as a bit odd as nearly all the reviews of the 1/72 Spitfire Mk1a have been very good and I was hoping to create a BoB diorama with them but I am not sure I am going to be that satisfied with the results. Any ideas as to a really good quality 1/72 spitfire kit to do this with?
  12. Morning all. I purchased a couple of mk1a spitfire starter kits from Aldi last Christmas and set down to do them this last week. Despite being starter kits and having seen past reviews that praise its quality I've left feeling quite frustrated by them. I haven't found the fit that great and both of them have quite significant seams in the fuselage where one side is slightly higher than the other and they both needed significant sanding. Past reviews have praised the fit something that I can't vouch for with mine! So, two questions....are the Airfix kits from Aldi different in anyway from the standard (non starter) 1:72 spitfire mk1a kits and what is the best approach with seam lines? They really drive me nuts!! My current approach to glueing the fuselage halves is to clamp them together and then apply a thin cement down the line....is there a better way of doing this? I do try rescoring the panel line detail after sanding but its never as clean as the original ones. Many thanks.
  13. Perfect. Thanks for your reply Peebeep. I find the subject of varnishing and what and not what to use quite a mind field!
