Thanks for that. I was able to buy some early braids by tracking down the part number. However they are long sections and I think they need to be cut down-no idea how long they would need to be so have messaged the restoration site for advice.

Hi guys Recently bought a nice early 60's set for restoration (Set 50-using cars C72/C73 Cooper/BRM) Although I've had Scalextric in the past, I have never seen the braid system as used in these early cars before. They aren't really braids-more like fine wire brushes. Question-mine need changing-where do I get these early braids? I can't find reference to them anywhere! Many thanks.
