  1. I can see this on amazon: Designing and Building Model Railway Baseboards by Ron Pybus | 26 Jan 2015 Mod note - that's the one I have.
  2. Getting closer to building the board now Can anyone advise as to an easy to read book which takes me through all Ineed to consider in setting up? i have found the track guide pdf useful
  3. Thank you 96..I will stay analogue at this point. Any good advice re joining up frimnly and accurately two separate baseboard modules? I prefer this way as opposed to folding... easier for strorage .
  4. Thanks all... having a think again about modular......... Can anyone point me to any vids which show fitting together ,taking apart etc
  5. Thanks..... they are talking about half inch ply in the video which is 12mm. So softboard generally is not so strong.............
  6. Thanks Brew Man.... Just looked through all the vids. One issue lookking to emerge.... Is building it with that thickness of board is going to make it pretty heavy to get out from under the bed....?... and the plan is for it to sit out the living room table for weekends when kids are here....and then go back upstairs out of my wife's way during the week. Are there any ideas on a lighter approach to the board?
  7. Hello there Welcome advice and support please..all gratefully received 60 years ago my Dad built quite a complicated circuit for me with Hornby 3 rail. In my teens sadly I sold it for a reel to reel recorder Now with grandkids of my own i am seeking to create a circuit. For that purpose I have bought off ebay two sets 1) Flying Scotsman 2) The Lakelander They are both basic oval circuits with Track Pack A. The idea is to combine both sets and buy extra track etc to get a circuit similar to track Pack D. With one analogue controller controlling one circuit and sidings and the other another. If that makes sense. With an isolater where points connect one to another. The plan is to get/make a board 1200 x 1800 (6x4 ft) for the circuit which could live on rollers under a double bed. So some initial questions 1) Can some one point me to an idiots guide to build the base board in the way I need. ( I am not very practical these days) ? 2) Can someone advise me as to the practicality of my plan for the layout above......and help me work out/advise me what extra track and packs I may need to get the equivalent of a circuit like Track Pack D ( given that I may have a lot of the rails using my second oval circuit and pack A.) ? 3) Are there good written guides etc which will help me through this ? Thank you very much. I did look at this a year ago but didnt manage to start Steve, Leeds
  8. @96RAF Thank you a very good point! And thanks to everyone for your advice... much appreciated.
  9. Thank you all so far.... I am moving toward a folding 6x4 I think If we get ply.... what thickness would be best.... again I am thinking of putting cork down... so dont want too much weight....
  10. Hello there I am an oldie getting back into Hornby after my childhood with Hornby three rail... grandkids are the way back in. Can I be boring and ask about baseboards? I want to make the smallest and lightest baseboard that can fit under a double bed when not in use. What is the smallest realistic size I can get away with when assembling with extensios packs A to D ? Is it possbile to constuct ad board that can be halved when not in use? or is that really a hassle as there will be issues with track wiring etc? Lastly is Ply the best way forward... with cork.... or? Thank you for this... much appreciated
