  1. Thank you Paul. So if the decoder has the facility to play different sounds automatically on DC, will that feature also exist if the same loco is operated on DCC?
  2. Not sure where to post this but hopefully general discussion is ok. Some locomotive manufacturers allow their DCC sound fitted engines to operate on an analogue DC layout while also having a function where different sounds will trigger automatically without user input as the train progresses the layout. This is a handy feature to have on analogue and I was wondering if any DCC digital controllers allow this automatic feature also or do all the sounds still have to be triggered individually and manually? Kind regards, James
  3. Many thanks Paul for the detailed info, and thank you Brew Man. Yes as well as the point clips I’ve ordered both the Digital R8241and R8242 track power connectors, one for the programming track. I’ll keep it simple for the moment until my knowledge increases. Kind regards, James
  4. Many thanks for the helpful information Paul. I've ordered the above as you recommended. Yes it's an 00 gauge DC track layout the vast majority of which is Hornby track and points but I do have some Peco track and points on the layout. Will the point clips above function the same on the Peco points? I presume every set of points on the layout will need the point clips? Kind regards, James
  5. DCC novice here! I've recently purchased the Hornby Elite which came with only one track power connection wire. My layout is essentially three loops interconnected by various sidings. What's the best way to wire the entire layout including the other two loops as the Elite has only one track power output? Many thanks, James Mod note - title amended to include additional discussion.
  6. Thank you. Think I'll opt for the refurbishment, at least some decent life will be got out of the motor.
  7. Thank you Chris, that's good to know there's a refurbishment option. Thank you Viking, I certainly gave it a good clean. The engine was definitly getting power so it wasn't a pick up issue, but just wouldn't move either direction without a nudge.
  8. Being a novice I was rather pleased with myself when I successfully took a Ringfield apart, gave it a good cleaning (including the commutator) and a very light oiling, and put it back on the track for it to run beautifully without the annoying squeal that had manifested previously. Alas my jubilance was short lived as a few hours later the engine wouldn't move from a start when applying power but had to be nudged firmly each time for it to start rolling (also lost some speed). It would continue as long as there was power but each time I stopped it it would not start moving (either way) without help. I took the motor apart again, replaced the 2 springs and brushes but to no avail as exactly the same problem persisted. Is there a possible fix for this? It seems difficult to source a brand new Ringfield motor, yes there are some but pre-owned on ebay. Do you know of any sources per chance? Thanks and regards, James
  9. Hi All. New to the forum. I have a variety of hornby engines, sets, coaches, wagons needing repair/servicing some missing wheels, couplings, bogeys etc and I want to send them all somewhere in the UK that will repair the lot (and have the parts to do so) including service some locomotives, to bring all back to full working order. Where would you recommend please? Thank you, James
