  1. Ive finally after about 3 hours persevering had to put small piece of card under PM and then managed to get one PM working both ways after the screww tightening/ loosening - so think I just need to persevere now with the others probs take me less time for the others hopefully now I seem to have a success cheers
  2. yes as I said using the hornby RR8243 surface mounted motor
  3. yeah thanks all the points work so no wiring problems as I said when the PMs are off the trak ie hand held then click clack P6 P5 on the select no problem the PMs are on the same level as the point everything is wired properly and as I said when disconnected from the point work fine - my question was mainly directed to the point not working properly as the motor works both ways when placed on opposite sides of the point but with conradictory results ie on one side it pushes but doesnt pull and then pulls but doesnt push so the motor works - as I said all the points are new straight out of box but seems like they dont wont to go one particular way only tried it on 4 of the points in my layout as they are the ones close to me and swapped them around - but with still same results - its a pain as all this should just work without the hassle and spent 4 hours today trying to get 4 points and motors to work cheers
  4. OK guys me again with another problem - got all my track sorted plenty of power but now trying to fix the surface point motors to the points so the all work via the Select (working with 4amp transformer). have 2 new R8247 point decoders programmed to work the points and when detached from the points themselves work fine with a firm click. All the points are new - when I connect the motor to the point they work one way only - and only part work the other. So I tried swapping the motor to the other side of the point and it agains works only one way - but this tiume the opposite way ie if the motor is on the outside of the point it pushes the rod across but wont pull it back - if I swop it over and put the motor on the opposite side it pulls it in but wont push it out - so it seems that the point motor works - ie it goes both ways ok - but the point seems to be sticking on one side - so I tried the various motors on different points with the same consequence - the point always seems to stick on the same side - so having a spare set of points I tried to push down the little clip inside of the point where the rail clicks in - again same result - so tried this with 4 different motors and 5 sets of points. The points are mounted onto board with guagemaster ballast sheet underlay - so tried putting a piece of slippy card underneath to reduce friction - however same results also tried trimming off a piece of the point stem so it clears the housing of the point motor - also cut a recess in the point motor to allow for extra clearance of the little stem on the point - non of this works so - Im now out of ideas now - anyone got anything else I can do?
  5. quick update with the problem for possible future info - got a hornby 8 pin decoder today and it works fine with bachmann locos - also got the R9300 hornby 4 amp transformer and that doesnt make any difference to the use of gaugemaster decoders in the locos - have 4 gaugemaster decoders and none of them work so - unlikely to be a fault with one when 4 dont work - so still have 2 locos that have 21 pin dcc fitted - so today ordered EZ command decoder (cos its £21 as opposted to the bachmann which is £40) so see if this works
  6. OK thanks to everybody who had replied with possible solutions - I think I may have found the problem as today I received a new bachmann (sorry) loco from Rails which was DCC fitted. When put on the track and programmed it ran fine - so decided to open it up and see - it has a bachmann decoder fitted. Took it off and put on on one of the locos that wont work with gaugemaster decoder and low and behold loco ran fine. so decided to put gaugemaster onto new bachmann and again had same problems as all the other gaugemaster fitted locos. So weither the gaugemaster decoders dont work with 1amp supply Ill fine out soon as Ive ordered a 4 amp supply for the select before I have to spend more money on the decoders - thingh being is that the gauge master decoders state on the bottom of the backcard that they are "DCC27 OMNI loco decoder 4 function 21+8pin 1a(1.8amax)"
  7. the select is soldered to track I dont use the power track all the points clips are new and fitted as the Hornby loco runs on all the track I'll perhaps try removing the decoders and run the loco in analogue mode then next option is 4 amp power supply ill keep you posted cheers
  8. ok thanks for that info unfortunately still not working - if I do it with the little hornby class 8 it works - unfortunately if I do it with any of the bachmanns - it doesnot - all I get is a little quick pulse of energy from the loco and it stops on all three of them - when I reprogamme them and then stadt them they go about 8 inches round the track involuntarily and then stop - all the same- if I unplug the power and then start again - the same - a little burst and stop - without any controls - when I put the loco on the track it buzzes then shoots off for 8-10 inches - when I do it with the hornby loco - it works fine??? all round the track sidings etc - responds perfectly as it should - ias it the GM decoders? they are the DCC27 OMNI loco decoder 4 function 21pin and one worked ok 2 weeks ago but doesnt now - should I just rip the track apart and start again - or is there a simpler solution - thanks
  9. Hi guys I have recently set up a track similar to the trakmat layout that came with my mixed freight set. - it has 2 continuos loops plus sidings - the track is OK with the hornby shunter running round all parts so I have power to all the track. However I have 3 Bachmann locos with Gaugemaster 21 pin DCC ships fitted that dont run - when I assign them a loco address - they do a small little jerk and then stop - Ive tried reassigning each to a different address but to no avail - the hornby class 8 runs perfectly - Im running with a select controller - Ive tried switching chips but again to no avail - one loco came fitted with chip and worked initially but now doesnot - Im sure that Im doing something wrong maybe with the programming - but just following the instructions in the book that came with the set the locos are all new so shouldnt be any faults - any help would be appreciated as Im starting to loose the will to live as -Im guessing the solution will be simple - but not as simple as me!!
  10. I already have the Rev 2 version - does this make a difference?
  11. Thanks - yes I priobably do have a misunderstanding -as Im pretty new to this game but when you read the bumf in the manual it 'mplies' that the decoder can operate 39 solenoid accessories - I assumed, wrongly so - that this meant all at once - QPQ select 61 and switch - select 67 and switch - obviously not so OK I understand now that I need another decoder - which is less expensive and more reliable than using my DC supply with contact switches In the comment that I already have on on switches it was just to indicate that I have a DC power supply to power any contact switches as required i got these after another question previously regarding the use of the Select to change the R406 signal lights - so I obtained a guagemaster dc supply and the yellow on on switches - these too are expensive as you say The manual perghaps should read modules but doesnt - says module - hence my assumption Thanks for your help - Im sure there will be more questions - now off to get a new R8247
  12. Hi guys another newby question - I have my track layout and surface point motors (8) wired up - to Select module - track and locos all work fine - I have a R8247 decoder which Ive programmed the first block of 4 as per the select unit operators manual (ie 61-64) and all 4 switch no problem - then disconnected them then connected the next block of 4 and programmed them to 65-68 all work no proiblem - now when I connect all 8 in the 4 separate outputs only the last 4 programmed work - Ive looked in the manual and it says the select is 'capable of operating up to 39 points ... when used in conjuction with R8427 decoder module. The point decoder can operate up to 4 points etc'. So does this mean I can only operate 4 points at a time with the select and R8247 decoder and if so would it be better to get another decoder - or operate all the points via DC and passing contact swith and bin the R8247 - the cost involved is greater (around £90-100 as against 45) for the passing contact switch element bearing in mind I already have on-on switches for R406 signals with a DC supply - or am I doing something wrong phew - thanks in advance
  13. Thanks guys for clearing this up - was a bit worried that I had a dodgy select - but its barand new - ie 2 weeks old - the lights work when ive tested them with a battery - think im gonna go with the easier option atm and use a 2 way lever from my analogue controller and then investigate further when its all wired up
  14. hi with regard to the firmware version - I bought this select as part of a mixed freight set brand new from Jamlam - Ive looked in the manual and can corfirm that the firmware accoring to them it the first 2 numbers that flash up are 20 30 and 03 so that indicates to me from my understanding of the handbook this is firmware 2.0 version 3 with default loco as 3 ? does indicate a problem with the select if so its not a problem as its new so can return it also refering to the poist by Hornby tried the green as common also tried 2 different r406s and both do same - again they are brand new out of the box from jamlam thanks
  15. Thanks guys Ive just bought the x9430 from ebay
