  1. Thanks Ratch for the tip. Mark 1 finger did the job. I had already covered the thing with a gloss varnish (of dubiuos origin hoiked out of the cupboard) which was probably causing the problem.
  2. I have recently been trying to apply exhaust stains to my current build. From any tutorials I have seen, they go on dry and a brushed in, but when i do this they just slide around and don't stain the aircraft. This is the same for scraped-up tamiya weathering powders and hard pastels. Any tips? Thanks
  3. I'd give an arm and a leg for a finish like that Bod 😆 Looks great. I struggle a lot with perfectionism and maintaining my concentration when things aren't going swimmingly. Sometimes its best just to think about the next model and things you are going to do better on it.
  4. Just to confirm, is this the flat base you are referring to? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Acrylic-Mini-X-21-Flat-Base/dp/B000BWZU1G/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=tamiya+flat+base&qid=1601720663&sr=8-1
  5. Hi James - 1/72 & 1/76 are pretty close, but a difference will be apparent if you place the models/figures of different scales close together, 1/76 being smaller. Example: a 1" tall figure in 1/72 would represent a person 72" tall (6'), a 1" tall figure in 1/76 would represent a person 76" tall (6'4"), so a 1/76 figure of a 6' person will be shorter than a 1/72 figure of a 6' person This, obviously, also applies to vehicles etc. I hope this is helpful. Also, I understand that the forthcoming 1/35 Cromwell tanks will be Airfix' own tooling. Im pairing 1:76 vehicles with 1:72 people so it should be fine
  6. Thanks very much for the help.
  7. Thanks very much (Just being lazy here and not starting another topic), but is there a good value, large volume matt varnish equivalent to pledge?
  8. I have seen various people on various build threads showing (for example) a fully assembled cockpit unpainted, then showing it painted. I understand how this would make assembly much easier and much cleaner (no globs of glossy poly cement over paint). What I don't understand is how you could possibly paint such a detailed area? Should you use an airbrush? Even still I don't see how you paint the backs of seats etc, or anything that can just be seen but not accessed? Appreciate any advice
  9. I've just got an airfix catologue, having recently started the hobby again. A few thoughts: Wow. Such a lot of Lego. Are starter sets all poorer quality than classic? What happened to all the 1:24 aircraft?Where did all those 1:35 tanks come from? They look awesome! Are vintage classics really vintage classics or is it just a name to cover up the age of Airfix's 1:72 figures and tanks? Also can I just ask, can I mix 1:76 figures with 1:72 aircraft?
  10. I'm looking to buy some of the fabled pledge gloss coat. On amazon there appears to be 2 versions - Pledge Multi Surface Wax and Revive it Floor Gloss: #1: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Pledge-Klear-Multi-Surface-Wax/dp/B008HFVO32/ref=sr_1_7?crid=1TGHIBGO2GW9A&dchild=1&keywords=pledge+revive+it&qid=1599585526&sprefix=pledge+rev%2Caps%2C179&sr=8-7 #2: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Pledge-11182-Revive-Transparent-Liquid/dp/B000ARPH4C/ref=sr_1_6?crid=1TGHIBGO2GW9A&dchild=1&keywords=pledge+revive+it&qid=1599585526&sprefix=pledge+rev%2Caps%2C179&sr=8-6 What is the difference between the two products does anyone know? Also there appears to be a mix of reviews for pledge; the most say its wonderful and the only gloss varnish you'll ever need and others say its vastly overrated and you should buy dedicated pro stuff. Can someone clarify? Thanks very much
  11. Thanks very much Ill probably just put the flaps open in their default angle 🤔 😀 Also, its too late to amend now, but what is the exact purpose of the flaps behind the engine and at what stages would they be open or closed?
  12. Hello, I would just like some help on options for my model. I decided to have the wheels down for practicality, and then decided to have everything 'open' as if for maintenance. However, I annoyingly put the pilot in way back in the early stages, so this isn't realistic. I would like to fit the bombs, so I wondered if I could make it as being before taking off. I had planned to have the flaps down but havent actually fitted them yet. Would they be up or down before taking off? (Excuse my utter ignorance and idiocy) Also, does anyone have any idea what the difference is between the two types of rear gunner nacelle? One is a lower profile than the other. Thanks
  13. Thanks for the help Funnily enough, it seems to have stopped spitting water now. I have actually learnt that the best remedy for such difficulties is practice (clap clap whoop whoop) and am getting on much better (at the minute) Thanks again
  14. Have you drained it? Yes, the valve to drain it is the same valve to reduce the air pressure so it is more or less constantly draining. In any case there is no water sitting in it.
  15. Thanks a lot for the help. Regarding the water spitting, I have a Revell standard class compressor which already has a moisture trap on it. Do I have to get one that goes beneath the airbrush? Thanks
  16. My Sparmax MAX-4 is up and running and a number of problems have surfaced which have caused a lot of stress and lack of confidence. I would really appreciate help on them. My paint (Revell Aqua and Humbrol Acrylics) is incredibly hard to clean out of the brush and gets stuck in the body below the cup, requiring endless rinses of water and cleaner. Is this because they are too thick for airbrushes? Should I be using thinners instead of water? Do I have to use airbrush paints? When I am spraying air only, the occaisional spray of water comes out, which can ruin a paint job. Is there any way to prevent this? Also, how fragile are airbrushes? Can you clean them with a pipecleaner? How easy is it to damage the needle? Thanks very much
  17. Thanks very much. Some of the parts such as guns and bombs will no doubt come in handy.
  18. Hello, I've always noticed a couple of extra parts in my Airfix kits that were'nt mentioned in the instructions. Now, as I move on to more advanced kits and try to improve my modelling, i'm realising there are loads of extra parts included. I realise they are intended to allow the modeller to acheive different variants and models, but I would like to know more about them and what they are for, since there is no reference in the instuctions. Is there any kind of guide available on these parts, or are they intended only for genned-up experts? Thanks
  19. Ah! That explains it all. Thanks for the gen. I've just bought a single £5 adaptor from everythingairbrush.
  20. The 109 pilot looks pretty alert. No flies on him.
  21. Shucks, is there a word limit? Heres the rest: ) I concluded that the larger end of my hose is a 1/4" BSP and the smaller end an unspecified thread with 5mm diameter that apparently is common to Revell and Badger products. So yes, if I had gone for the Patriot after all it would have fitted fine and all would have been well. Such is the life we live. I am posting this partly to share gen and mostly to gain it. Has anyone else had similar compatibility issues? Is 1/8" BSP the standard fitting in the industry or does it vary across all manufacturers? What is this unspecified 5mm connection? Any other helpful info? Thanks very much!!!!
  22. Recently, I decided to buy a decent gravity airbrush I could use to cover detail parts. I already owned a very good Revell compressor along with Revell hoses, left over from my fathers business. These incedentally fitted fine to a cheap Airfix suction-fed airbrush I had bought. I initially set my heart upon a Badger patriot 105, but after reading comments about how they did not fit to ordinary hoses, went for a Sparmax Max-4 instead. Open delivery, I found that the 1/8" BSP fitting did not connect to my Revell hose. Upon more research and measuring (which should hve been done previously
  23. Hi Ratch, I use acrylics only and I am using a bit of a mix of brands, but for the most part I am currently using Revell aqua colours. Thanks,
  24. Hi, I am starting to do modelling again, but am only an unfledged novice. My equipment is fairly limited, but I am finding it frustrating trying to get a decent finish of paint. I have airbrushed part of my Bristol Blenheim, and the results are pleasing, but my airbrush is very cheap and I would like to use a brush for the camoflage. My main problem is paint filling up cracks and obscuring detail. I have never used thinners and assume they would help this problem. Could some one please give me advice on how to use thinners and whether they are crucial. Also, I know this sounds silly, but i rarely apply much more than one coat! Could some one instruct me as to the best painting procedure? Also, I would appreciate some help on other products such as washes etc. (Which ones are essential and how should I use them). I hope you will appreciate I don't have a big budget and would like to avoid buying everything on the market! Thanks in advance!
