  1. Thank you for all your responses. Taking point motors out to cut some pins, not many but enough, is a real pain lying on my back at 70 to do this. I tried with my Xuron rail cutters but no good. I will take your advice and reluctantly crawl under the base boards!!!!
  2. The pin on a (below baseboard) solenoid point motor usually have to be cut back to avoid snagging the rolling stock. I have struggled to cut these pins despite using various tools. I would like know what other modellers use to cut these very strong pins. Help would be appreciated. Thank you.
  3. Thank you. I will look at this Forum.
  4. I recently purchased a Railroad GWR Hall class (R3170) which is DCC Ready. Presumably it has a socket for an 8 pin plug? I would like to get a Hornby Sound Decoder to suit. A Hornby TTS model which could plug straight in would be ideal. However searching online for one has not been successful. They appear to be out of stock. Are Hornby still producing them? Can anyone suggest where to look or an alternative make/model or solution, that's not going to cost the Earth.
  5. Thank you Topcat that is very helpful.
  6. Thank you to ntp, Topcat and P-Henny for their suggestions. These extended cables will be a link from my points PCB boards to my points control panel, so will the same concerns regarding resistance still be an issue. It looks like I will have to buy some thicker wire 16/.02 wire and make up my own two parallel cables with some DB25 sockets and plugs. I think doing the calculations regarding resistance is a bit outside my comfort zone, so I will play safe. Thank you.
  7. I need to extend two leads from from two breakout PCB boards , for my points, to the control panel. The leads make connections with DB25 pin plugs. A suggestion has been put to me to use Parallel Extension cables with the DB25 pin plugs on. I really don't want to disassemble and fit longer wires, it's too much messing about. Can anyone advise if this will work? I've looked online but don't know of a reputable manufacturer. Any suggestions.
  8. Apologies for a very slow response and thank you for guidance on the Flying Scotsman. It’s hardly been out the box in 41 years until recently and cost my wife £27! A little lubrication and ran very well on the Club test track. The motor is in the tender.
  9. I have arranged a decoder for my pannier tank thank you. What about a Hornby Flying Scotsman which is 42 years old, a present from my wife. It would be great to convert it to DCC with sound. Any suggestions for a make/model? Thank you.

  11. Hi Colin Thanks for your response. I was hoping to use a Hornby one because of the price and the sounds I’ve heard on locos with one installed have been good. Perhaps this will have just the the decoder and I will choose another loco to fit a sound chip. £124 is a lot but my upgrade to DCC wil have a few with sound. Perhaps on my Manor or Grange class I’ll fit a sound chip. Thanks Colin. 👍
  12. Hi Fishmanoz thank you for your help. I have seen the new Hornby system, which looks good, but I don’t like the idea of using the mobile. Just a bit old fashioned. I saw the sound decoder at my club and it was very impressive. Your information has been useful. I hope someone else may have an answer concerning the Pannier and a suitable sound chip. Thanks.
  13. My OO gauge layout is currently analogue, but I have decided to to change to DCC. With the help of some club member friends I have purchased a new controller (model ANE LD101). Now I want to get my first loco converted with a sound decoder and I have been reliably informed that the Hornby ones are good as well as being reasonably priced. I would like to know which Hornby sound decoder model would be suitable for a Bachmann Class 64XX DCC Ready - 6 Pin? Is there more than one choice from Hornby? I'm not experienced in the DCC subject, so please don't blind me with science. Hope you can help.
  14. My control panel is 5mm thick and I'm having trouble fitting toggle switches. Are there any with a slightly longer threaded shaft, which would allow you to get the top nut on more easily? I have tried some samples from Gaugemaster. Hope you can help.
  15. Hi All I have finally been able to complete RAF96 suggestion and insert a sketch layout. Sorry for the delay my IT skills leave alot to be desired. I was considering purchasing one of the ply control panel kits which are laser cut. You just glue the parts together. They have a number of various sizes, but as my original question, what size would I need? I hope you experienced modellers can assist. Thank youfor your patience.
