  1. Hello, Does anybody know roughly when this set was released? Thanks
  2. Hi, thanks for the reply, My controller is a R7229 and my laptop charger is rated for 19 volts and 2.37 amps.
  3. Hello everyone, My transformer recently died (it was quite old) and I found out that the charger for my laptop fits the controller. Do you think that it would supply enough power for a simple oval track and an 0-4-0 as a temporary solution? (even if i was to run on the controller's 'low' setting?) I'm not good on voltage and amperage so I'm asking here Thanks
  4. By previous product do you mean HVR2?
  5. Hello everyone, First of all, I wasn't sure whether to put this under the Wish list section or General discussion, so apologies if this is in the wrong place. I recently was watching "James May's Big Trouble in Model Britain" and saw a segment in it about branching out into the video game market to make model trains appeal to younger generations. Then it suddenly dawned on me that Hornby already made a couple of fairly successful video games back in the late 90s/early 2000s. (Virtual Railway 1 & 2) So why not make a 3rd game if Hornby is serious about venturing into video games? Something like this has amazing potential, such as: Better graphics, Virtual Reality, Community modding support, Downloadable Add-on Content, and possibly MULTIPLAYER! While I am aware that developing a video game costs a lot of money, I think this could bring a whole new world to railway modelling and potentially give the opportunity for people to build up layouts where they couldn't afford to make the real thing. Thank you for coming to my Dragon's Den pitch grinning
  6. Hello everyone, A few days ago I bought a R7229 controller from Hornby and have noticed that it appears to be extremely harsh on motors. Unlike my old controller, at low voltage/speed, there appears to be a buzzing from my loco's when using this controller. Is this a cause for concern or is it harmless? Thanks
  7. If you can't get it going, there are plenty of specialists that can fix them.
  8. I have this problem with my layout, and even when running an 0-4-0 at half speed it stops after a while. I tried buying a new controller but that didn't fix it so I think the issue could be with the transformer itself
  9. Being on a very small budget with not much modelling skill, my layout isn't going to be ultra realistic. I'm mainly going for an oval track with a little village in between. As long as the layout doesn't look like a cheap toy, detail doesn't matter to me that much.
  10. Hi, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I don't have the technical knowhow to make my own loco out of parts. Seeing as I am very unlikely to switch to DCC anytime soon, I think I will probably go with a Dublo loco. Especially seeing as they're great value for what they are and (from my experience) very smooth runners too.
  11. Hello again everyone, I am starting to build up my layout, but am in the market for a new locomotive. I currently have a Hornby Dublo Golden Fleece 4-6-2 A4 which is my Father's. It's an all-metal design and runs exceptionally well, but uses a fair amount of power. I also have a cheap GWR 0-4-0 which came with my train set. That doesn't run as good, but admittedly is way overdue for a service. I am looking at buying a Hornby Dublo 2 Rail LMR 2-8-0 8F Loco off eBay for £65.00, but alternatively could save my pennies and buy a more expensive, modern loco. My question is: Should I go with a new loco or buy an older Dublo one? Considering that I could buy a Dublo 2-8-0 and 3 coaches for the price of a new Terrier, is it a good idea? Thanks
