  1. Hi Too Tall I've actually run afoul of the dreaded filter so often, that filter behavior has become transparent. It has a list of words and or phrases. The filter performs a pattern match algorithm, character by character, between the list and the post. Should there ever be a match for any word or phrase, it is flagged for moderation. So far, so good. There are some obvious profanities and slurs which clearly should not be on a Hornby Forum. I have no dispute with that type of restriction. Reasonable and sensible. The issue is that there are words which have differing meanings, context dependent. The filter does not understand context. That creates work for unpaid moderators, who I am sure generally find the filter acting slightly silly (again). Correspondents become confused, and I recall one lad who became upset that his post was held waiting for a moderator. As if the moderators should hop to it. Yeah, no. ÷÷÷ Back to modeling You brushed the water tank? Not sprayed? I'm now quite a bit more impressed. When I brush, I often leave behind brush marks. Imperfect color blotches where its too thin and excess paint pooling where it is too thick. I am dreadfully inept at the task. I've been considering going to an airbrush. Color matching, even black, is tricky. I assumed you painted the boiler as well. Even if you claim luck, its still a match. Bee
  2. Its still there. "...n***d eye...", or as 96RAF puts it "undressed". I have used the same expression as well, with similar moderator action. When the naughty word filter is too strict, it flags innocent phrases. High magnification with artificial lighting exposes flaws that would be unnoticeable at arms distance in normal room illumination. The English language has an idiom for that, "to the n***d eye". Unfortunately, the naughty word filter does not like "n***d", even when immediately followed by the word "eye". Not the cleverest filter ever invented Bee
  3. Wise choice Robert! The very next thing to consider is a wiring diagram. As your layout grows and develops, it will be handy to not reverse-engineer everything you did before. Simply refer to the existing diagram and modify/update it. It may seem like a waste of time now, but trust me, it will become the grail. 🙂 Plus, you are very likely to spot your wiring issue, straight away. Bee
  4. @robert-1311322 Hi Robert and Welcome Aboard. One thing to consider, while the lads are troubleshooting your layout, is the acquisition of a volt meter. With a voltage meter, you can check for continuity and etc. Its a worth while investment. They can be very inexpensive. And mostly, they make troubleshooting and diagnosis a doodle. Just a thought Bee
  5. Just the briefest of updates. All my items, in stock. Bob, at Scale Link has packed them up. Paid for. Once the parts arrive, I get to re-engineer all the bits I reverse-engineered (aka guessed at dimension). Looking forward to it! Bee
  6. Looks very nice indeed, Too Tall. The finish looks particularly smooth. Well done! Bee
  7. @TrainMan333Shapeways literally just declared bankruptcy. You will not get parts from them for the foreseeable future Bee
  8. Hi Colin Questions, since you observed it: Did the Brio chuff? Does the Brio even have moving valve gear to sync with? Bee
  9. Creating an ultrasonic mist is one thing. Synchronization of that mist with the valve gear, as a function of the valve gear configuration of the moment is quite another.
  10. Hello Gary I live in the USA and happily plug my Gaugemaster controller (UK plug) into a step up transformer (110vac to 240vac). I simply determined my current draw and purchased the next transformer up from there. That is the only tricky bit, sizing the transformer. Bee
  11. Oscar Paisley has video of a hump classification yard in action https://youtu.be/Pkt_FJhg5VI?si=PjszVHUsi3wr5Kgw Skip to 4:30 Segment runs to about 6:02. There does not appear to be any braking if waggons whatsoever. Bee
  12. Same, not just a one off error. View the 70th anniversary shows me Airfix. Bee
  13. For the answer in real life: https://www.devboats.co.uk/gwdrawings/loadinggauges.php Its a good read and intro to the topic. When you get to the table detailing Principal Dimensions, the platform dimension given is from the outside of the rail to the platform edge. Example. GWR, 1920s. Dimension is 2'3", from outside edge of rail to platform edge. 27"/120 ×25.4 = 5.715 mm There is also a fantastic structure gauge diagram here https://85a.uk/templot/archive/topics/gallery/2/original/2_040252_350000001.gif Which suggests your platform height, in real life, should be 3 feet above rail 7.62 mm in TT120 Bee For a real life station on a curve, examine https://youtu.be/VHPn6zWIcrY?si=BfUVjtrfQk4Nd7y-
  14. Hi TGV94 Why have you turned off comments on your youTube channel? Did you check that the video is for children (kids)? That would do cause youTube to turn off comments automatically. No reason to say the video is for kids. Yes, children will occasionally play with them, but the videos and the trains are really targeted at adults. Some American train channels explicitly state "Not for kids" and read the printing on the box "recommended 14+ years of age", just to be on the safe side. No need to be so cautious Bee
  15. Sounds like you followed all the steps. The only slightly troublesome bit might be the 'sticky restoration'. Plastics can become sticky when too much solvent is used on them, like acetone. I wiped down one sticky bit of plastic with acetone and quite a bit of plastic came away. But the underlying surface then became sticky. I finally resorted to mechanically scraping the plastic to relieve the gooey layer. There would be no way that paint would ever have adhered to that surface, prior to scraping. Too soft as a semi liquid mess. Post scraping, yes I could paint it, should I want to, dry and firm. Bee
  16. Perhaps, Rana, you could explain your process so as to better diagnose any issue? Does it include: Keying the surface for adhesion Cleaning the part before paint Primer coat(s) Color coat(s) Sealing the acryllic with a top coat(s). Application of gloss coat in water slide location. Water slides do not like matt finish. After water slide applied, sufficient time to thoroughly dry Top coat sealing over water slide ÷÷÷÷ I am certainly not an expert. Finishes, like painting, are my Achilles Heel. Far be it from me to criticize others, when my efforts are so miserable. My efforts are mostly preparation for the color coat. Still cannot get that amazing professional appearance. Someday, maybe... Bee
  17. Naturally, after weeks of waiting, I was frustrated. Within 24 hours of posting above, Bob has replied!! The universe smiled at me. Scale Link is still trading. Hopefully I can now get the parts I need to proceed. I have been working on details like securing the motor & motor housing to the chassis. Things that didn't need actual parts. Belay any request to call Bob. Things are in motion. Hallelujah !! Bee
  18. Oof. Just realized that you displayed two locomotives for one question. R3837 is the one with the power class 2MT. I am indeed sorry for being dreadfully unclear. Bee
  19. Hello @Francis-Dublin The power class of this locomotive was 2MT. 0 being the weakest, 9 being the strongest. MT, I understand, stands for "mixed traffic". It is neither P for passenger, nor F for freight. Other locomotives will have separate power classes when it is mixed, for example 7P6F. It is my understanding that 2MT is the equivalent of 2P2F Bee
  20. Agreed @Rallymattand further to that point, of the FS SS returned, there will be commonality of issues. That is, the team will have seen the problem before, know the solution and will execute the known fix. There will not be much in the way of experimentation or investigation. Much more like 'this is problem X, apply known solution Z" Not all repairs will be so straightforward, but for Flying Scotsman Super Smoke, there is already a known list. Happy to hear @sir johngot his model back and repaired. Have fun!! Bee
  21. Just noticed that R40437 Queen Adelaide's Saloon, single boxed carriage, is also missing from the webpages. That wasn't due until Winter 24/25. With both the boxed set and the single carriage gone, it has the look of "withdrawn". I think its time to write Customer Service to inquire. Bee
  22. Never answered my questions on Locomotion No.1 either. I had to write to Carl, Director of Engineering, to get them answered. Surely he has better things to do than to correspond with me. Hopefully this improves when the webpages are brought in house. If a company is going to offer a feature, like "ask a question", they should support that feature. Conversely, if they will not support the feature, they should not offer it. It just leads to customer frustration Bee
  23. 1:25 AM GMT 18 July 2024 Adelaide's Saloon, R40357, has been removed from display to the public. All the normal era 1 stock is displayed, but for the first time since it was announced, the listing is gone. A direct link https://uk.hornby.com/products/lmr-coach-pack-wellington-globe-queen-adelaides-coach-era-1-r40357 brings back Hornby's not found 404 screen. Bee
