  1. So retirement plan is a model railway and one of the things I fancy is my first EVER airbrush. I've heard of people like H& S and Iawatta but flipping heck, the prices! So, for a budget first airbrush, I found this.......................https://www.amazon.co.uk/Airbrush-Fengda-FD-18-2K-Compressor-accessories/dp/B01984G2OG/ref=asc_df_B01984G2OG/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=344405143865&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17211504215835487508&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006682&hvtargid=pla-422198469504&psc=1&mcid=96bfe325b34e3e66a0819ffe545e2306 Worth having a punt as a beginner?...........or has anyone got any recommendations in a similar price bracket. Thanks.
  2. I've started building a couple of Metcalfe kits ready for building my first layout since I was a kid, 40 odd years ago! I have to say I'm very impressed with the Metcalfe kits and find then an absolute joy to build. Anyway, I'm going for mid 50's era loosely based on North West UK area. I think the buildings should have British Railways maroon and would like to know the correct paint colour/code/manufacturer that I could use on a Metcalfe kit. Many thanks
  3. @P-Henny. A very fair answer, I must admit I didn't look at it from that point of view and must also admit that I'd probably be one of the ones going bonkers trawling through reams of answers. :-)
  4. Is there a way to "force" a viewed thread to start off at the first post instead of jumping to the last. It's not the end of the world, I just scroll up but it does drive me a bit bonkers having to do it every time.

    WD40?

Thanks guys, much appreciated. You've prolly just saved me quite a few hundred quid! :-)
  6. As a complete newby, could somebody please explain why WD40 is a no-no on locos? I've always thought it brilliant stuff after years of cars and DIY but reading through some earlier posts, I'm getting the "NO" but not the "WHY". Ta
  7. Thanks guys, much appreciated. I'll give them a shout on Monday.
  8. Hi all grinning Just joined and looking forward to swamping myself in a lake of knowledge cos I know begger all! My last model loco was at the age of 12 and I'm now 57!!!!! Wifey and I have decided that our soon to be retirement past time is to build a model railway so we've been buying up small pieces and kits to make a start for when the time comes. I'd like to buy wifey an engine for her upcoming birthday and as I've always called her my Princess (yeah, I know, soppy! :-) ) it's got to be a Princess Class loco BUT, I'd like to re-name it PRINCESS ffIONA and renumber it 46213. So, after all the waffle, could somebody please recommend a co' who can make up new nameplates and number sets. Ta.
