I am just beginning a new shelf layout 12' long x 16" with a fiddle yard at each end. I want to model either era 3 or 4. I was originally going to build it in OO scale layout, until TT came along. I think TT scale is the answer. I want to have a small village or town with shunting opportunities, i.e. goods shed, cattle dock, oil depot, pub, etc. The newly released locomotives are great. The problem I have is that it would look very unrealistic to have the Mallard or Flying Scotsman doing shunting. They could do a run through but that would be all. I will need 0-6-0s, 4-4-0s or 2-6-0s for a branch line. Also being over 29, I do not want to wait two or three years to operate my layout. Please do not take this as a criticism. I understand why the locomotives on offer are there and that Hornby needs to make sure that the introduction goes well to make TT a profitable product. Other manufacturers may decide to produce British outline in TT, but will wait to see if the Hornby introduction is successful.
