  1. When my car had issues, I contacted my garage. They list how much they charge per hour for labour, and then list the additional cost for various repairs. Because of this, I knew they had transparency and trusted them. Maybe you just use a bad garage. You failed to answer the question and have resulted to a rude response. It’s clear you guys are out of your depth with electronic outside of engines. This has made it very clear we should look for an alternative solution to our controller issue. Thanks for making it clear we can’t trust Hornby repairs. You should get a promotion for your fantastic publicity of your own company. I note that you hid the fact you worked for Hornby technical repair team… and yeah, we are clearly meant to trust you… appalling! And you wonder why less and less people are buying model railways.
  2. Most independent repair companies will give you a basic cost beforehand and, if the customer can suggest the basic fault, they give a rough estimate before hand. How is Hornby the only repair service unable to do this? Have you guys ever stepped into the real world before? C’mon, have higher standards of professionalism expected!
  3. If you know the problem with the car is in the gear box, they can give you a range of cost. an ELink controller hasn’t got massive amount of components. There will be a minimum cost of labour, then the cheapest option is that plus capacitor/resistor. Option two would be cost of labour plus replacement Chips. Option three would be replacement device. These seem easy basic costs to example. Saying they’re trustworthy is difficult when the quality of products isn’t the highest at the moment, and many on here say they were unable to fix their problems. This isn’t super high standards to enable trust. So how about they outline the potential costs to avoid misleading or bullying customers into paying because it will seem rude to turn down the repair when they already have the device. You might have lots of disposal income, but 90% of the country are struggling to afford living costs and can’t enter these costs lightly without more information.
  4. It may be easier for them, but giving a rough estimate of price range should be an easy task. This won’t be the first ELink they will have had in for repair. They’re just keen to have us commit to the repairs so we’re more likely to be tied into paying whatever they decide to charge us. Seems dubious to say the least!
  5. Ok, our ELink DCC controller is faulty. Not going into what the problems are here. But, after several fault finding attempts, we contacted Hornby Technical Team, who have said we need to send it in for repairs. Our response was to ask how much it might cost, but they won’t give us any information. Can anyone tell us roughly how much it will cost? There’s no way I’m committing to the repairs without some suggestion of the costs. Can anyone help?
  6. This app/software looks like it’s been developed by some 6th former who is learning JavaScript/html for the first time and can’t do it very well. It has developed bugs many times! The chips, sound encoders, electrical points, controller and software all add up to a huge amount, then keep having issues, I get the joy of repairing engines, but faulty and poor quality software and hardware is not acceptable! Especially when every few of us can actually afford this hobby! If Hornby had an actual competitor in the Uk, they couldn’t justify the extortionate prices. I’m fed up! Our app has yet another issue! The software won’t interact with any of the trains. It says it’s working fine, but nothing responds. On top of that, we’ve tested the engines on DC and with the same connector cables into a DC controller and have it working fine. So it’s defo the controller or software. We’ve checked all the settings in the software and they’re all fine. So, my controller is malfunctioning, or my software has yet another bug! I’m fed up! Someone new needs to take over Hornby and bring it up to industry standards. It’s appalling! Any suggestions anyone? Cz I can’t bare this rubbish anymore. If Hornby had a competitor, I’d switch over today!!! They are at an appalling standard! Especially in their attempts to modernise (software and hardware).
