Long Taxal

Hi Ratch.

Looks like a nice clean build, you seem to have had no difficalties with this build. I made a couple of those old Loco kits way-back-when both Airfix & Kitmaster, and found them very enjoyable as they went together with little fuss, just that  some of the painting took a very steady hand and time.(Boiler bands on the French Mountain and Evening Star.)  At one point I thought you were motorising the loco but a second look I saw I was mistaken.

Thanks again for showing this build it brought back some memories. Looking forwards to seeing the Mogal doing some work on the Taxal.

I added a touch of weathering, and here she is on the rather delapidated baseboards of Long Taxal

Hi Ratch

Thank for posting the Long Taxal again & good to see you've completee the Mogal. I see you've done a series of photos, but why in the cars forum, but thinking about it were else could you have put it.

I was wondering how did you do the lining? I see there's a mapping pen in one photo did you use that with masking for the straight line. Whichever way you did it it looks superb and again thanks for the posting of this unusual subject.

Hi John, you call it a mapping pen - many years ago (when I did Graphic Design) it was called a Ruling Pen. Yes I did the lining with that and a ruler (freehand round the boiler and corners). I put the other pictures in Cars because it doesn't really fit anywhere (though I did consider General Discussion).

Hi Ratch

I put the other pictures in Cars because it doesn't really fit anywhere (though I did consider General Discussion).

Yeah! I thought so . Maybe it’s time to start a new forum “Miscellaneous”, for all those odd Airfix kits that don’t really fit anywhere..

  • 1 year later...

Thanks Gordon. When I got my own house I converted the loft for a railway layout. I worked on it for around 15 years. Then I changed jobs to work on the railway, to discover that much of what I'd done in model form did not match railway practice. So I ripped it all up with the intention of building an accurate model. The only trouble was that I worked long hours and never had enough time to work on it. I started building kits again and that sort of took over. Maybe one day.

I visited the Hornby chat room some years ago, but felt excluded because model railways had moved on so much since the 1980s.

You are welcome.  😀

I recommend you visit the Hornby Forum. You do not need to know anything about model railways, to post anything. We have lots of 'newbie' posters who don't seem to quite know what they talking about, or that's how their post sounds. Equally it could be a badly written post, so you do not know which is correct or not.

Model railways have advanced since the 1980's, but I still recommend you to come along and post some of these images. You may feel not welcome due to lack of knowledge, but you will learn. There's some great knowledge their about real life railways and model railways, right down to each individual product. Please consider this and come along in your own time.

I'm very sorry about that Ratch. You are very welcome there. I did not see your original post, as I do not genrally check the Hornby Hobbies' branded forums, during the daytime often. I had a busy day today, anyway.

So your 'Community Moderator' wording displayed over at the Hornby Forum? Very odd. I believe that it should be displayed to the website forum, that you are a Community Moderator on. I believe that needs to be corrected and then a Community Moderator can post on one of the forums, without the Community Moderaor tag. This should be suggested to admin to alter this problem.

Anyway, the Community Moderators on the Hornby Forum, suggested you create a new Hornby Hobbies account to post there. You are welcome Ratch. They are just worried that the Community Moderator tag will confuse members. Please try again with a new account, in your own time.  😀
