Mully
Having recently moved into the old family home I came across stacks of old Airfix models from the 1970s but there's one aircraft I can't identify, can anybody help?/media/tinymce_upload/9f8b0fb601a1405fa3bd23cb0c48fa5c.JPG
Heather Kavanagh
I reckon that's a Fiat G.55 Centauro. If you search for that name on Wikipedia, you'll see some photos of the real plane that seems to back up my reckoning. I would post a link, but when I tried I was told that was not allowed. *shrug*
T2B
I was initially thinking it was a French Dewoitine D.520 from 1940 era but having just checked the images of the Fiat G.55 I think Heather has nailed it. But it's certainly not an Airfix kit
peebeep
Heather is correct, it's either the Frog or Italeri/Supermodel kit.
John Symmons
Hi MullyHeather is correct it's the Fiat G 55 that was relrased in the early to mid 60's by Aliplast and the later by Italeri. Quite a rare bird if it's all there it might be worth spending some TLC on it. I've included the photo from the instruction sheet and the decal& paint guides.Good luck Remember we do this for fun. Mully
Wow! Fantastic, thank you very much everybody. It has to be a Frog kit, my brother and I did buy a few in 1969-1971. John the Pom, thanks for the paint and marking information, I will definitely spend some TLC on this one!Mully
John Symmons
Hi Mully.Glad to be of help, I don't think it is a Frog kit, as they did the Macchi 202 Folgore which whilest very simular was a totally different bird. As far as my memoury goes the Fiat G 55 was first issued by Aliplast then by Supermodel when the partners of Aliplast seperated one forming Italeri the other forming Supermodel which were eventually absorbed into Italeri. That's when they re-issued the G 55 Centauro.Maybe Frog did a licenced issue of it in the late 60's or early 70's I cann't comment as I was out of modelling then, like being a life-guard in Newquay, so maybe Frog did issue the kit.The Macchi 202 was powered by a Daimler-Benz 601A engine and was armed with machine guns while the Fiat G55 used the DB 605A engine and mounted cannons in the wing, that's what really makes it a G55.Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
Ratch
John, Frog did issue a G55, code F216Fhttps://www.scalemates.com/kits/161777-frog-f216f-fiat-g55
peebeep
I don't think it is a Frog kitI've got one! It's Frog's own tooling and it was also reissued by Revell, but it won't appear as any other Frog spawn boxing because the Russian companies weren't allowed to touch Axis subjects.
