Assembly of Airfix aircraft model

Following several years of modelling inactivity, I restarted the hobby with the onset of working from home in the lockdown.

I have made inroads into my stash, unfortunately the lure of buying new models has meant that it has not decreased

I have found that the welcome detail of recent aircraft releases has meant that building kits is more complex than in my Airfix modelling heyday in the 1970’s

My current frustration with some Airfix models is that the level of detail in assembling cockpits & radial engines, sometimes causes problems with achieving `gapless & jointless’ finished fuselages & cowlings

The new Gladiator, Spitfire PR XIX & Blenheim I are recent examples; at times I’ve wished back to my kit building of 40 years ago.

I’ve also built a number of short run Czech injection moulded kits, with the lack of locating pins and poor fitting components one expects to have use scalpel, file, wet & dry & filler to achieve the desired result. So, the next model was by Airfix & low & behold I had to resort to modelling clamps to assemble the fuselage.

I always do a dry run to check fit and file down any part that is not fitting – any hints please
