Arty1707822014
Hi, I am wiring Hornby surface point motors on a friends layout, trying to connect into his HM6010 but I need to extend wires, could anyone advise what size wire I need to purchase. Chrissaf
I suggest the minimum sized wire for extending point motors should be 16/0.2mm wire [16 strands of wire @ 0.2mm diameter]. This size wire is compatible with the wiring terminals on the HM6010. Rob [96RAF] is going to ask his HM6010 tech support contact within Hornby what the maximum sized wire is, that is compatible with the HM6010 terminals. Getting this answer back may take a few days. Chrissaf
Initial feedback from Rob's HM6010 tech support person is that the connectors on the HM6010 support the following wire specifications:AWG 24 to AWG 16 and Cross-sectional areas from 0.2mm2 to 1.5mm2Equipment wire 16/0.2mm and 24/0.2mm fall within those specificationsEquipment wire 32/0.2mm 'on paper' falls within those specs, but needs to be confirmed in practice. The minimum wire size that can be held securely in place is 7/0.2mm wire which equates to the AWG 24 & 0.2mm2 specification. Arty1707822014
Thanks , I’ve ordered some rolls of 16AWG wire .
Chrissaf
Just to make you aware, AWG16 wire is not the same size as 16/0.2mm wire. AWG16 wire is even thicker than 32/0.2mm wire. It is on the upper size limit of the 'tech support' claimed supported range of the HM6xxx connectors and is very thick indeed.
