My first scalextric mains set (older set)

I have recently obtained a secondhand my first scalextric mains set,1:64 original set for my grandson. One of the cars was missing the guide and braid, which I have managed to obtain spares. However I am not sure how to replace them. I emailed scalextric and was told just to use a small flat headed screwdriver. However that was all.. so my question is.. do they just pull off? How do the braids go? Sorry I know that these are basic questions probably buy never having a set as I child scalextric is all new to me.

Any help would be appreciated.
