Help needed with a new purchase

I still have from when i was a boy the old scalextric 300 and porsche sets with various add on cars - unfortunately they no longer work unsure if it is the the power supplies / hand controls or track connectors or all of the above tbh .. though what i do want to do is get my boy playing scalextric .. so as i am not that technically minded to try and fix them myself or have anyone local to look into for me.. i thought would it be possible to get him a new set and then be able to allow him to add in the old sets so he good build on the tracks and and add on the the old cars.. and if so what sets would you recommend as a new purchase.. I know nowadays things have moved on and digital seems to be the new platform..Maybe he would enjoy that more and it is just me that wants to go back to the retro style !! any advice would be grate thanks in advance

If you are not technically savvy I would not recommend mixing and matching old and new.

They are completely compatible: But the old stuff needs to be in near perfect condition that requires time and effort.
