oldmodeller
I too am an old modeller and remember these model ships first time around with moulded ratlines. I took the plunge with Endeavour and used the ratline jig. I found that it is a great help if you add some masking tape to the top slots and also insert a piece of card between the ratlines before gluing. I also found it easier to remove one of the plastic bars (as shown in pic.) The thread supplied in the kit seemed to be waxed and glue would not take to it. I used ordinary thread of two different thicknesses (verticals being thicker than horizontals) and glued at each intersection with revell contacta as I found that liquid cement filled the gaps between the threads. it also needed two coats. I also painted the ratlines black. This worked well and I was also able to make the futtock shrouds using this method. (futtock shrouds run from the mast platform down to the main shrouds - you can see them on the photos). very fiddley work but worth it in the end.
