David-344608
I have been picking up the Airfix small ship (galleon) models as shown here and wondered if any of you aficionados could either point me to or supply a list of these old pocket money kits? Sailorman
There were 8 ships in the original Airfix range.1952 - Golden Hind1954 - HMS Shannon1954 - Santa Maria1955 - Cutty Sark1956 - HMS Victory1957 - Mayflower1957 - Great Western1958 - RevengeThe Golden Hind is said to be the first "real" kit issued by Airfix, the Ferguson tractor being a promotional kit. The years given above are the years they first appeared. There have been numerous re-issues. Other than the Revenge, Great Western and Mayflower they were initially issued as waterline models - see the picture of my Golden Hind at the end of this post. The moulds were later reworked to full hull models on stands. They were rather basic and were copies of models by a company I believe was called Addar. This company also issued some other models in their range which were not made by airfix. eg: Bon Homme Richard, Constitution etc.Airfix also made the Charles W Morgan whaler in the ship in a bottle range and a few years ago they released a lovely 1:400 model of the Mary Rose. You seem to have built 5 of the 9 (10 if you count the Charles W Morgan ......so you have 4 or 5 to go!Be sure to post pictures of them once you've built them! This is the Golden Hind - one of the ones you are missing!
