25pdr & Morris C8

Ratch

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of building one of these Ratch, for the first time in quite a while. I just wondered what colour you had planned for the inside of the Morris cab. The only one of these I have seen in a museum had the interior painted silver, which I thought was only used on armoured vehicles. I'm thinking of building a replica in a middle east scheme, so I was thinking the vehicle interior would be the same colour as when it left the factory, possibly green or khaki green. I have a picture of a Morris in a warm climate with the side doors kept open, possibly tied back unless there was a lock of some kind. I assume the inside of the doors in this case may be painted in an external cammo colour.

I did a google image search for Morris Quad and there was a restored example in the pale stone inside and out. All the ones I've found are the same inside as out. For the tropical scheme Humbrol 121 is close enough for me. This one will be in the temperate scheme.

Cheers Shaughan. When researching the 25pdr and Quad, I learned that the basic unit of C.8 + limber + 25pdr was often accompanied by another C.8 + limber + limber for extra ammunition. This gave me the idea to but two additional kits to accompany the one just completed. One I could build to match that one in the dual limber configuration, and the left-over Quad and gun could be built as if deployed. Well I bought the two kits and then discovered that back in 2009 that glen3312 (on the ATF) had given me a number of kits for restoration. One of these was the C.8 and a limber (no 25pdr). The missing gun was of no concern now.

The near side front wheel was missing, so I used the spare wheel off the back. I'm looking for references now. I may repaint if I chose a different camouflage scheme

I have cut the doors out of one, the other two will remain closed.

I added a rear wall to two of them.

The doors were sanded on the inside to thin them, and then I added ribbing, cut from thin plastic card.

Nice Build Ratch. I have been watching it as it goes along.

My supervisor for my first work term as an Engineering Student some 50+ years ago was an ex-WW2 Canadian Army Artillery officer who fought in Italy and Europe with 25 Pounders. They used CPM Gun Tractors. He did not talk about it much (typical of all vets, I think) but when he did it was always interesting.

Brings back memories of those stories....

Cheers,

Tim

That's right Tim. My grandfather fought through North Africa and Italy as an anti-tank gunner. He hardly spoke about it. I found out much more after he'd passed on.

Whilst looking for some other stuff I came across these - some need re-painting.

This one is a Hussar.

I was looking for six seated figures to go into one of the FATs.

Three are pilots, but maybe folks won't notice with them in the back. They will be painted in the same way as the gun crew.

Here's my proper go at Caunter.

I've fixed the side windows on all three.

I'll make the windscreens later.

Meanwhile, assembly has been going on.

Gaps filled and a couple of outriders rediscovered (while looking for some other bits). I'll repaint them as army motorcyclists and may use them. Next job is to mask up and respray the base colour.
