Ratch
Post WWII ships don't usually interest me, but I picked this up from the Wonderland models stall at SMW last year for a reasonable price.I shall build it strictly OOB, and full hull, on it's stand - another thing I rarely do these days. Ratch
I feel I'm off to a good start.I wouldn't call it 'shake'n'bake', a little pressure was required to make mating surfaces meet. The first lump at the pointy end, I think its the bridge. Then a bit behind - a shelter deck? The stands are glued onto the hull.Anchors added. The driving gear - screws will be fitted after spraying the anti-fouling paint. Ratch
Step 3 adds the wings to the bridge and both funnels.Step 4 deals with the foremast.Stage 5 sees the main mast and other bits added to the aft superstructur. At Stage 6 the davits are added, I left the ship's boats off until after the main paintwork. A & B turrets are just dropped in.Step 7 deals with the Sea-slug and stern. The Wessex is not fixed yet.And so, with basic assembly complete, she's ready for paint. Ratch
With the paint arriving yesterday, I could push on a bit today, and started by masking below the boot topping.I could the airbrush the Hataka Hobby Acrylic Paint A205 Light Admiralty Grey (BS381C 697) over the upper surfaces. Here you can see the difference with the primer.Masking removed.I then re-masked for the boot topping.I was unable to mask completely, so this will be brush-painted.Then I started painting the decks AK Interactive AK5032 Wooden Deck and Life Color UA 641 Semtex Green. The boot topping was revealed.More deck painting.Next will be touching up. jopres57
Nice job. The County class were fine, futuristic looking ships that were retired too early. I think that Airfix made a good decision to re-release the kit, let's hope HMS Leander and HMS Amazon are next. I hear that plans are afoot to buy back Falklands veteran HMS Alacrity from Pakistan and have it as a museum ship. Let's hope they succeed, it was shocking what happened to HMS Plymouth. Mark Downey1707820148
Excellent job but this kit is awful. Showing its age when boxed with Type 12 and Type 21. HMS Tiger similarly bad.
